Show Telephone Token Distribution Reaches Throughout Country Series 13. Part 14 Bv Joe J. Davich IN THE EARLY DAYS of San Francisco, the merchant telephone tele-phone token was very common. As many of the private merchants mer-chants would have the telephone tokens made with their specific advertising on each token. Such tokens would be issued to persons per-sons as a complimentary gesture. ges-ture. Also it was a form of stimulating new business and actually a very low cost of advertising. ad-vertising. So as a general rule the telephone tele-phone token had received much distribution in all sections of our country. Many types, shapes, and die varities did exist and a collector certainly could spend years in pursuit of the many tokens, not alone to count what i n t e r e s t i n g facts nught be available of the many different telephone companies that existed back in the early days. The research of telephone history has been a most interesting inter-esting project and by no means has this series been complete in every detail. It's possible that many r ea de r s of this series have in their possession particles par-ticles of information that would give further strength to this publication. As with any article that is publicated many different opinions opin-ions can lie formed by the non-collector non-collector as well as the general token collector. Through the publication in the Park Record and one of the national collectors collec-tors organizations that I belong to, I would hope to stimulate some comments on what has appeared ap-peared in the past number of weeks. IF ANYONE MIGHT have in formation or even a telephone token in their possession that they would share with me, all help shall be greatly appreciated. appreciat-ed. Anyone that might volunteer information and making a request re-quest of their names to lie withheld, can le certain this request re-quest shall be honored. For the past number of weeks this series number twelve which started with part number one, will terminate at this point. It has been my hope that in some way I have been able to bring out the historical events of the telephone companies and their medium of exchange, the so called ''telephone token".. If this has been accomplished the many months I have spent on this major project is most rewarding to me. Joe J. Davich 360 South 11th East Salt Lake City, Utah 84102 |
