Show Second Edition of Park City Book Is Printed It s out! The second edition of Diggings and Doings in Park City by Raye Carlson Price. Bigger and better than the original, the photographs are by renowned cameraman Harry Harpster, Salt Lake City. Raye Price first became interested in Park City when she wrote articles for Ford Times and Desert magazines. She free lanced for Treasure Mountain Resort in the beginning, writing menus and articles along with news releases; she even staged a fashion show on opening day there. "This all led to the idea for a book," she says. 'This and my fascination and love of that little town!" Diggings and Doings is a fun book a fun book for old-timers and newcomers alike. Even people who have never visited Park City will enjoy the book. It gives excellent historical background and the new edition has completed the picture through 1972. She, has incorporated a "favorite "fav-orite recipes" section at the back of the book and this adds to the interest, too. Harry Harpster used a 35 mm Nikon F camera with 55 mm Micro lens, 135 mm telephoto lens and a 35mm wide angle lens. Harry says that his first visit to ParkCity confrontedhim with two points of view. "The first view extended into the past with the quaint antique charm of Old Park seen all about, reminders of its great silver mining days. While at the same time I saw another point of view focusing upon the new Park City and all the exciting changes this vigorous old camp is making for the future as a recreation capital. "I have attempted a truthful photo essay of all this, describing graphically the blending of these two spirited eras. If this portfolio of photography is adequate, the viewer will then feel something of the mood of the early mining min-ing days, and will as well, be caught up in the thrill of new growth and the new hope of Park City, "The Good Little Town in The Good Little Holler." Over the years Raye Price in her capacity as a free lance writer, has published 'Barrier of Salt-the Story of the Great Salt Lake"; she has sold articles to Field & Stream, Travel and Westways. Presently stie is collaborating col-laborating on a book and beginning begin-ning another one of her own. Park City is fortunate that Raye Price established an early interest in our community. She and Harry Harpster have presented an authentic and delightful de-lightful picture of Park City-past City-past and present. |
