Show Bits and Pieces By Eleanor Bennett SHORT AND SWEET! that's what my vacation was! From July 7 to 16 isn't very long, but if I listed all the people I saw, all the home cooked meals I ate, all the restaurant luncheons lunch-eons and dinners I was treated to, and all the visiting I did in that short time, you'd be amazed. amaz-ed. Not only did I see a lot of friends in Michigan, but I got in on two annual pot luck picnics where I saw whole groups of friends at one time. One was my former service club, Zonta International, and the other South Side Literary Club (like Athenaeum). And you know how I love animals, particularly dogs-well, dogs-well, one of my dearest friends has an airedale I had seen her one day last year when I was there when she was just a couple of months old, but this year she has grown into a beautiful dog if an airedale can be beautiful. beau-tiful. Sweet Starbrite Ginger is her name and although she is the friendliest puppy on record, she is an excellent watchdog. The weather was real summerysome sum-merysome rain, quite a bit of humidity, but you know something? some-thing? I must really be a Utahn now, because I missed the mountains! Michigan is lovely at this time of year-green and pretty; beautiful forests and lakes and beaches; the farms are so rich lookingand the crops growing well, but there just aren't any mountains! Everytime I fly anyplace I automatically think about hijackers. hi-jackers. I suppose it might be exciting but I think I'd really rather have my plane land when and where I chose! When I boarded at Salt Lake on my way to Michigan I was pleased that they" were using the Magnometer-that's the metal-detecting device passengers pas-sengers walk through to see if a gun is being concealed. Well, imagine my delight when I returned re-turned Sunday to find that at the Chicago airport they were really SEARCHING ALL HAND BAGGAGE! I had to chuckle at the variety of 'stuff" I had in my bag some breakable, some personal and some even "eatable". "eat-able". And let me tell you something some-thing comical my plane from Michigan into Chicago was quite late so my connection in Chicago Chic-ago was frightfully close. And because the plane was crowded they ran out of coach seats so they seated me FIRST CLASS! How about that? I don't think I'd ever pay the difference in the fares, but it was fun getting all the extra niceties that come with the first class fare. And when this short and sweet . vacation came to an end, I really hated leaving my Michigan friends, but I'm happy to get back to all my friends in Utah AND to the mountains! |
