Show i Abrupt Awakening By VICKY WHIPPLE In the last few weeks o of March many girls from Vi Viewmont wrote letters of application to Girls' Girls State They were to tell about their school and community community activities WE WERE also asked to write about our reasons for wanting to go to Girls' Girls State As we turned in our applications for Girls' Girls State we were told we would have a personal inter inter- view We thought a person would question us and that would be It As you entered the room a ase se semicircle mi circle of ladies we were r e seated ready to fire ire questions They asked many interesting questions questions concerning the nation community school and yourself As you left the room you gave them your name address and phone number Everyone Everyone Everyone Ev Ev- asked How will we find out if we made it MRS TROWBRIDGE usually answered wi with th a s smile mile that it would be announced over the loudspeaker After a nice Easter vacation I prepared to return to school At 6 am a.m. Tuesday I was awakened awakened awakened awak awak- ened to the music o of eight lovely voices singing the Girls' Girls State song I was told to get a coat and my shoes and follow them Three other girls besides myself myself myself my my- self were awakened In this manner manner manner man man- ner on Tuesday They were Cheryl Freeman Sharon Sanders Sanders Sanders San San- ders and Lynda Penman After we had picked everyone up they headed towards Slim Ol Olson's Olsons Olsons Olson's Ol- Ol sons son's gas station The one with the big office and all the lights LAST YEARS YEAR'S Girl directed us to go and aks for the bathroom key When we asked they said it was unlocked As last years year's Girl drank hot chocolate we stood and sang I the school song We were then taken to a cafe cate where it was known that you could get deer hunting licenses When we asked they thought we had said r e hunting Ii licenses c e ns e s and Just laughed and laughed Our last stop was the police station statton As we appeared before the desk we had to ask many ques ques- Then we told the officer that we were to tobe be the new Girls' Girls for 1969 To top the whole ritual off the Girls' Girls of 68 presented us with witha a corsage It wasn't the usual type of corsage It had big red paper poppies and a white rib rib- bon Then it had a small sign saying that we were I ers |
