Show Henefer Wins Another Plaque To Prove Operation Co-Operation Pays Tuesday T evening l' Jan 31 Henefer Hene fer received the second plaque commending the community for fOT outstanding work nork ork In cleaning and Improving the tho community On hand to accept tI till the award i aI-i from Dr Orvill Stark of Utah State University ann and J J. J Rood Red Moore County F. F Extension Agent wore vei-e Ted Tod Wright ht finance chairman of the th committee and Larry Dearden Dearden Dear Dear- den representing the Ule Henefer Town Board I Immediately following the ceremonies members of the tho Town Board met with Dr Stark and I Mr Moore to discuss the continuation contin- contin of their Improvement plan This award avard the tho second such honor received by the people of Henefer culminates two years of hard work and unrelenting effort J Proud roud Citizen Early In the tho spring of 1965 members of the Town Board took tooka a good look around Henefer and didn't lIk like what they saw The melting snow was revealing weed choked ditch banks cluttered yards ards and arid fences long overdue for repairs and paint Scattered all throughout the community were many old barns and sheds crumbling crumbling crumbling crum crum- bling with age ago The Tho town square the site of the now unused school building I was ns weed infested and cluttered The building It Itself elf was beyond I lj repair Its broken windows like I sightless eyes ees staring starin unseeing I 1 What was as once tennis and baseball base base- ball all backstops were tangles of I wire and rubble i Something had to be bo done for forthe forth th the people of Henefer arc are a n very proud proui people proud people pi oud of their pi- pi oiled heritage and proud of the natural beauty around them But I Ithe the tho job was entirely too big for I Board President Roy Fawcett Fawcett and his small committee To present present present pre- pre sent HenEfer the way it should I be bo would take the operation co-operation I of the entire community I With advice from County Ex Extension EXtension Extension Ex- Ex tension Agent J. J Rt Reed d Hoare and EX I encouragement ement of Alden end and Johnny committee captains were wore appointed for each ach I job jab to be done Every Everyone one enthusiastically enthusiastically en pitched in to help I beautify their little city En Ea Each c h family looked around to see what i t improvements could be made In I their own back yards j i But money had to be raised to finance the public improvements I Ted and Maxine Wright staunch I supporters of any community project were ere given this huge I I task I Fund Iund Raising I Project et i I Their first project was t the h e eI I I gathering of scrap metal A pickup pick pick- I 1 I up date was set and every everyone one searched sheds barns and gaI garages ga- ga I ga-I I I I rages for scrap to donate Everything Everything Every- Every I I thing from tram leaky tea kettles to hand powered washing machines 1 I nails to car bodies was collected i jand and piled plied for sale The up clean-up campaign was on its wa way I Still more money was needed I so the committee searched for I new ways was to build cash I j I i j I I The next project was a n pan pan- pan 1 cake supper and rummage sale Again the townspeople donated articles this articles this time emptying closets closets clos cbs ets and attics of clothing toys books and a little bit of every every- thing The women turned out outI outto outto to clean press wash repair andI and make suitable for sale everything donated To add to ta the enjoyment of this I I event cakes candy and cookies I were also sold A delicious sup- sup I Iper per of pancakes and sausage with S plenty of maple syrup was prepared prepared pre pre- pared to the delight of every oneAs oneAs one As the day drew to a close every one went home with full tummies 5 i i and their purchases S 'S and the up clean-up fund was a little richer I I But But Still Still more money was v as i needed so the committee started I searching for other raising fund methods A to house-to-house canvass canvass can can- S vass netted a few more dollars s i I and scrap metal donated by IdalI Ideal Idal j I Cement Company kept the fund gradually growing The Tho final raising fund-raising project i for 1065 was a n band concert offered of- of fore fore-cl by the Morgan High School band and attended by the entire community This money went towards the purchase t of a n small tractor which I t. t 11 used to mow ditch-banks ditch and anda a 1 1 new siren for ter the fc fire PT rt- rt ment meat With the co of tv tp County several al of the tho b back a I.
