Show W Bees WAXING by Mary Bee WE HAD A blessed event at our h horn home o m e this week-our week Mini-dog Mini presented us with four tiny squeaking and ugly pup pup- pies This event wasn't planned planned planned plan plan- ned in fact we did everything in our power to prevent it- it only we under-estimated under the determined maternal instincts of one small dog She first decided she wanted to be a mother when Bobs Bob's had her puppies' puppies earlier this f fall all Mini would try to get into the shed with the puppies but the big bigger g e r dog had other Whenever we would bring a puppy out Mini would beg to have it set down so she could sniff it We thought she was just jealous b be because e c a aus au's u s e the puppies were getting so much attention Not so she wanted puppies of oher her own THE FIRST TWO DAYS after hers were born she had to be coaxed and cajoled to leave their box even for a few brief minutes Then she would d dart rt back whining and fussing over her squirmy babies Whenever we would come near the shed she would set setup setup setup up such a screaming and howling howling howling howl howl- ing we would have to go in and admire them She didn't want us to pet or talk talk- to HER only to admire her babies But now she leaves them foras foras for foras as much as five minutes at a time time- time only 0 only n 1 y because she has found a suitable sitter puppy CHOLLIE C H 0 L LIE whose real name is Charlie Brown but who is called Chollie because he just looks like a Ch Chollie llie is the thelast thelast thelast last of the pups The mother and all his brothers brothers brothers broth broth- ers and sisters have been found nice homes Chollie also loves the new puppies and when Mini leaves he jumps into the box fussing over them just as she does He takes his his sitting job seriously serious serious- ly only he is so clumsy he rarely misses sitting on a puppy or two He will just sit completely completely completely com com- oblivious to the puppy beneath his paws ignoring its cries of anguish Chollie being of the hound family is a loose dog By loose I mean his skin is loose he is loose-jointed loose his ears flop and he is by far the clumsiest clum clum- clumsiest siest animal Ive I've ever met Even his tail is loose Like Hortin if youve you've read Dr you know Hortin he is loyal to the end and wont won't leave the puppies til Mini re re- re turns He washes their faces and even curls up with them to keep them warm He is a very reliable sitter in spite of being being being be- be loose ing so THE FOUR PUPPIES have been christened Miney and Gus because there aint gonna be no Mo and this past weekend there has been beena a string of young admirers coming to see them Frankly I cant can't see what there is to admire They are about the size of an under-fed under kitten and seem to do nothing but eat and r squeak We hope to o find homes for them by Christmas time That is if we can get Chollie and Mini to give them up for adoption It seems very doubtful doubtful doubtful doubt doubt- ful right now Mary Mary Bee |
