Show Park High Sophomores res Believe Vickie Brunyer Idea The two following articles were written by Park City High sophomores who are In agreement agreement agree agree- ment merit with the article Teenagers Teenagers Teen agers and the World Situation Their T c critiques r i t i q u e s written for their Engl English sh class are presented presented presented pre pre- here On December 19 1968 there appeared in the Park Record an article entitled Teenagers and the World Situation by Vickie Brunyer By Jan Watts- Watts After reading the article I r asked myself the question Is Is the world situation as Vickie describes it it- it My answer is both Yes and No No In the field of communication we are barbarians as Vickie states We do have a hard time listening to the advise of our parents But on the other hand do our parents listen to us When they listen they have already already al- al ready eady made up their ancl itis k wall Vickie states in her article that t at parents should spend m more re lime time with their children I dont don't really think spending more time with our parents would make a better relationship and close the generation gap In fact it could make the situation worse be because because because be- be cause we are two different rent generations and we enjoy different different different dif dif- ferent things Are we an evil generation answer My-answer My answer like Vickie's is is' NO It is not the teenagers who make the films or write the books The The Thes adults are the ones who lure teenagers into these evil situations by putting on show bulletins For Adults Only This arouses curiosity Thus the teenager searching to find what doesn't he-doesn't he know goes to the movie Teenagers Teenagers' are ar are e constantly searching for new ideas and experiences Yes some of these experiences can get us into trouble but by ly this we learn Teenagers are searching for truth and for what is really right for them This we do by setting higher goals than our parents set Vickie mentions that we have haye riots Why do people riot dot I for one would really like to know why college students riot about the draft when they the themselves themselves them them- m selves arent aren't involved in it You would think the ones that are being drafted would do the rioting It is really the middle generation th that t is causing the disturbances not the teenager Drugs are a serious problem of the younger generation On this I with agree Vickie Adults do do peddle drugs and they put ona on ona ona a a phony act so that teenagers are are s swayed l in their decision generation is the going go- go ing generation generation- but to keep going going- we must learn to live with the middle and older generations By By Susanne Evans Evans- The article Teenagers and the World Situation published in the Park Record on December December December Decem Decem- ber 19 was written by Miss Vickie Brunyer In the article she shows the ge generation gap as it really is js isby by using such phrases phrases' as the effervescent and scintillating set when she refers to the teenagers and dominating adults adults' when referring to the adults She refers to the unruly hippies and to the fine American American Ameri Ameri- can boys who are representing us and fighting for us in Viet Nam She attacks and defends verbally both the adults and teens I approve and agree with her fully on the part about dirty movies magazines and books and that drugs are made and sold by adults not teens Then she points out that colleges are harder and an a college education is much harder to get these days than when many adults were in school I believe that this is true and I think that adults should pay more attention to the young soldiers who are fighting for far the freedom of the adults who and less attention to the hippies who are only looking for attention and nothing else I do not think that it was absolutely necessary to use all of the big words that she used I think that she could have used simpler words and could have gotten the point across a way better I feel the article has a very good purpose It points out to both adults and teens that if they do not each other then we would not have this problem of the generation gap I also think it was very appropriate for publication and we should have many more of the same variety It sounded to me that it was original except for a few ideas which I have heard before I liked the article very much |
