Show Former Park Parle City Lady Expresses Views On Presidential R Race ce The following post script of a letter received by Mr George Gordon from Mrs Margaret Whitney a Park City girl of years ago now of Berkeley Call Call- fornia is pUblish published d for Its it timely and Interesting nature Voto Vote for Thomas E. E Dewey for U. U B B. B president Hes He's a splendid man I have teen seen him a few years ago when he be has bas been in Berkeley visiting his aunt who Belonged to our University of Michigan Alumnae club At one time she lived In my immediate neighborhood But later we both moved The Deweys lived near Ann Arbor in Michigan and that's where I graduated from tho same college as he did the University of Michigan He lie had a 1 fine fino record there In his studies and also In the glee club and Other student affairs Everybody liked Tom Torn Hes He's Super Our country Is il In InDo Ina ina a Do mess now partly now partly because of the world I conditions but also b because use many people people peo peo- pie have been flocking In who havo have not in so 80 short a time been able to grasp the significant points of our national history and of our national Ideals and fundamental principles Probably In the Wasatch mountains there are comparatively comparatively comparatively few new settlers from Europe but here around San Ban Francisco Bay and in Los Angeles as well as In eastern cities there are millions of comparatively new Americans and also many from abroad who have not yet become naturalized These people all have a knowledge of their former homelands but they do not pot know much about the U U. 8 S. A. A or A-or or the spot In America where fate tate and preference preference prefer prefer- ence have landed them at this time tune These newcomers have their own ideas about world order but lack the tho appreciation appreciation appreciation of or local idealism My objection to the re-election re of F. F D. D R. R Includes the fact he is an old man and a tired one also to the fact that ho i Is by no means the only one fit to be president If It the truth were known there are arc hundreds even hundreds even thousands of bf men in America who would make excellent presidents of the U. U S. S A. A Why limit tho honor to the same old man who has already held the office one term too long He was re-elected re by men who know how they can and have used him for their own ends and he ho is a person susceptible to flattery who enJoYs enJoys enjoys en- en Joys the thrill of being it And BO so BOthey they put him in office and he delivers the goods they tell him to deliver That has gone on long enough and too long already But it leaves us Demo Demo- crate only the ono one alternative and that thatis is to vote for lor a Republican candidate this year Roosevelt would probably never never never nev nev- er have been able to carry darry on at all the thelast thelast thelast last 8 years or more If It had not been for the fact tact that Sidney was wad using the U. U 8 S. S A. A for a laboratory for working out tho communistic ideas he brought with him from the Russian corner of the world The Russians as al a nation did not originate or work them out because the Ideas had bad their origin in the lives of the Jewish people of centuries ago Without mentioning to the people of the U U. S. S A. A what the plan really was and It Its origin the Roosevelt- Roosevelt Hillman regime cheated a pattern and herded the people Into inlo it it by the thousands thousands thousands thou thou- sands and the millions like sheep And some of the sheep turned out to be black tool I use that figure of speech feelingly because In my childhood when I lived in Park City I used to watch with Interest the sheep driven by herdsmen herdsmen herds herds- men down Main street In front of our house louse We had a 1 little front yard fenced In n and with a gate Once It was open I and nd a 1 little lamb came in Long after the he flock had left the lower end of town on n its way down Into the valleys below we discovered the tho stray lamb Iamb And was wasI Continued on Page Seven I Former P Writes Most Interestingly Continued from Page One I happy I put a nice blue satin ribbon around its n neck and started to make a apet apet apet pet of It The lamb seemed to like It But a day or two later a man came looking for strays and Insisted on taking taking taking tak tak- ing it away We didn't really know whether It was his or or not not not-he he bad no proof lie He lust Just said It was and took It lt Poor little thing I I suppose Its Ita beautiful coat was shorn and then the butchers got hold of the lamb and chopped It Into Into in into In- In to chops and roasts and legs of lamb I have never forgotten that tragic Incident In my young life Ufe In the Park I I And so ao like sheep the people in the theU I U U. S 8 B. A A. A have been herded into this and that alphabetical pen pen with with P. P D D. D R. R I and Sidney Hillman as chief herdsmen and many of the sheep have nave been Innocent little lambs and haven't known what It was all about They have lost the very freedom they thought belonged to them in theU 8 S. you have not thought of the situation In that light I you can find out about It In the library If there Who In Ia is ii In hi It lit a 1944 WhO America and America and In la the Worlds World Who Who's Who published In In 44 1943 In England and look up the record that Sidney Billman Hillman Hill Bill man sent In and which was therefore published I I am not blaming Sidney I happen to know him because he used to come to California to give lectures at the Palace I n I Hotel tel in San Francisco Franciscon and I used to attend his hs classes The reason I did eo was because I have for years been In Interested interested interested in- in In social service and economics When I was a student In the University of ot Michigan I studied In Inthe the classes of Americas America's their best and moat most noted sociologist Dr Cooley When I came to Berkeley to U live ve I studied sociology In classes given by Dr a brilliant Jewish lady professor in the university here So naturally when there was waa a large convention held by sociologists from all over the the country and from Canada and Great Britain I attended the meetings and signed up to attend the Hillman classes They were excellent But the fact remains that they were rooted In ancient Jewish customs some of which were still stUl prevailing In various parts of the world and also being tried out in various mixed settlements in America I remember had special talks with Sidney Hillman himself because I wanted to know what had become of thousands of Jewish refugees sI I had bad seen In the the sou southern thern part of Chiago through which I used to walk as as a child to attend the I had to go to Besides the Jewish refugees I had seen the Polish refugees who had settled there in adjacent land Sidney Hillman had bad not seen Been It when I had He arrive there for a number of years later Wen the worst lain w over and the Jewish immigrants and their children had built up a a. a practically new and anet almost model I community he told me And it Is this SI Sidney ney Hillman a Jew born In northern I Europe over near Russia where his wife also came from who has has' really been the dictator in America during I I l. l F. F D D. Roosevelt's term tenn as aa president Kidney Sid Kid Sidney Sidney ney did the work and F F. F D. D R. R got the honor The whole regimentation of American workmen and social workers In their dally daily and business lives has been according to the Sidney Hillmans Hillman's I Jewish system with little superficial characteristics characteristic's to make it fit In the picture of America in the century The wrong about It It If if It was a wrong was putting over on the citizens of the U U. S. S A. A A. A an A-an an old Jewish socialistic system in the guise of a modern American American American Ameri Ameri- can Roosevelt's government i calle a Democracy Democracy and and the carrying on this deceit for 10 or 12 13 years taxing the people of the to pay the ex ex- ex Some of the alphabetical experiments experiments ments mente failed and others were Invented as the years but the financial backing was wren from the citizens of the country without country without their knowing what it was all for or about in the form of taxes Some one ought to write a book upon the subject o of the hectic alphabetical alphabetical alphabetical alpha alpha- regime of F F. F D. D R. R u R.-u as It really was not as the politicians tried to make mue us think It was It would take such a situation as I have tried to describe tomake to tomake tomake make a man like Roosevelt violate the American tradition concerning the length of term tenn for the president The nation has always favored a a. one term 4 years plan for president In an acute emergency we have had some IOme presidents who served 3 2 I terms term But the present in incumbent 11 F. F D D. R R. Is 18 the first nd nd only one to serve more than two 2 3 terms And here hero we see him campaigning campaign campaign- ing for a fourth fourth all all right In a row row but not and right I and hence we have a arow arow arow row on our hands handa The Democratic party Is to breaking up on this question I am one who J is I against more than 2 3 terms term for any U. U S. S president in slon sion The reason he should not have more re Is 18 because it l isn't nt fair If It ht hit stay stays I 1 in id a 2 I terms tenna he be has by that time appointed appoints come a dictator and if U he wins a fourth term wed we'd have not a president but a dJ dictator ator That That is 18 something A America doesn't want ever wi We have a large largA country and thousands of Dt wonderful men capable of being president There is no need of anyone s serving In that capacity more than 2 3 terms And if he does he be r destroys the the characteristic democratic scheme of the U U. 8 S. A. A The reason he does so 10 is because he tends to i appoint his own party-favorites party to the appointive Jobs and hence the longer long long- er he stays the more of ot his men are In and they dont don't want to leav leave ever verl verlAnd And unless they die we would see a worse than any the world half baa ever known in its Ita called so-called so called civilized career If P P. P D D. n. n should happen to be reelected reelected re- re elected e this fall which many of us pray he will not be he be-he he would no doubt continue Sidney milman's alphabetical l dictatorship for another 4 years That might be a bad idea ides or it might be a good thing I dont don't pretend to know But some of ot the other features of our government would be entirely wrecked and thrown In the waste basket That ThatIs Is a B form of tyranny It would mean P. P D D. R R. R would dominate the Supreme Court for Instance which was planned not to be so dominated It would mean that every nery appointive Job in the whole U. U B. B A A. A would be filled by a a. stooge of P F. D. D R. R That would make F F. F D D. R. R the worlds world's prize dictator Do you call that a democratic thing to do If F F. F D. D R R. had hM really been good and a real patriot loyal to the political philosophy ophy of our great count country he would have refused to run again after his hili second term Then four or 8 years from that date If wed we'd wanted him again we could have elected him The break of ofa ofa ofa a term would nave have prevented his becoming becoming becoming be be- coming the autocratic dictator he l actu actually tu- tu ally now is Personally I now feel ae tie is U not a Democrat that is he isn't a good goodone goodone one and probably never was Probably bly he Just used the Democratic Party to get tn My ancestors ancestor were in America at the time of ot the separation from England England England Eng Eng- land and fought in the Revolutionary war George Washington and the men who followed him in the presidency had hadan hadan hadan an ideal for this country which hasI has worked up uR until the present president I showed his hili tenacity to be it forever I IWho IWho Who does he think he Is anyway Hes He's only a man and we have hundreds or thousands maybe millions of men in U U. U B. B who are every bit M ar good and andI I many of them better by far than he has haa proved himself to be Take Chester Cheater Rowell of Berkeley for instance he instance he would h have ve made an an A l A-l 1 1 pr president t. t University of ot California and its several branches in various parts of the state He Is a class A executive and keeps his head Re He would He-would would be a marvelous president president president dent of the U. U 8 S. A A. But California wants to keep him And take teke President Ruthven of the University of Michigan He is 18 another splendid executive who would be a class A number 1 president are at least one hundred probably there lev-I sev sev- of U. U 8 S. A. A I venture to say that there era eral hundred great men men In U. U B B. A. A today who have the ability bra talents to make them equal and probably better than any of the best presidents we have ever had Then why all this talk about the F. F D D. D R. R RT It is a a. very stupid situation for our politicians to put the country into As for Thomas Edmund Dewey he lea is le isa I Ia a a fine line candidate And if we are really patriotic and want the beat best chance for I our country it is my conviction we must vote for Dewey He lie is young strong I bright wise has as good principles clean living 1 living and excellent Judgment If he hadn't been all of these he couldn't have 1 cleaned up New York Tork states state's government i when it was down in the dumps All AU I you have to do to learn this is to read the history of ot New York before and since Dewey started working there Roosevelt didn't clean New York up upI I when he w was was s there Why not Because he wasn't capable Of course COurM any man running for office will have a lot of opposition from th those who are afraid if elected he will cramp their the style etc But we all have to be patriotic and to want the very best kind of government for tor our wonderful country If It Sidney Hillmans Hillman's sociological experiments experiments expert ments during the past few years in U U. U S 8 S. A. A have proved to be worth anything and not were spending money-spending activities activities activities ties without social results of ot value they can be continued and board aboveboard not hidden under the mask maak of F. F D. D R. R nor any Alphabetical Front Mr Hillman can even be praised audibly for what whatever whatever whatever ever worthy work he has done or Is 11 Isable Isable able to do And it cnn can be a legal process not one of deceit as it has been for twelve long years Unfortunately Sidney Sidney Sid Sidney ney was waa born in Europe Instead of America but he could coulet still be hired to conduct research research- work for Iod forthe the benefit of our country without lt its it's being hidden hidden hid hid- den under the hat bat of F F. F D D. D 1 R. or anyone else What we the peo want to know is the truth truth because because after all 11 Its the truth that sets us free An And 1 P. P D. D R R. has not been divulging g the truth to his people Why then should they be foolish and nd continue him in office The Tho e answer Is le simple They crat crat iun am voluntarily and without re reward reward re- re ward bribe or gain renouncing my party for the time being to vote for Thomas E. E De Dewey ey for Pr President of the U. U B. B A. A A. and and I I hope I am now ad ading ading ing tog a gentleman who feels feel the earn sam about the subject BIn Sincerely yours MARGARET M. M |
