E No roster instituted November 27 1901 I return It herewith I greatly appreciate your our letting me have It This probably my last visit to dear dearold dearold dearold old Park City will remain with me al al- al ways In meandering over the country for the past fifty years no place has formed farmed the string heart-string attachment as the place where I was born and spent the carefree days of my youth In spendIng spend spend- ing upwards of two hours at the cemetery cemetery cemetery tery and reading the names on each and every tombstone I was able commune to with the departed friends of long ago and In going up and down each street I was waa able to call to memory the faces of those who lived In almost every house All AU this and the run down condition of the homes deeply Impressed me Indeed caused many pangs of sorrow and I was reminded of the days of my youth when Park City was one of the most prosperous prosper prosper- ous mining camps In the United States If Ir not In the whole world On the other hand I was made happy In meeting quite a number of ot old friends and acquaintances The talks with each brought back memories of many I had forgotten as well as many happy Incidents of the long ago I wish I had had more time for I know there are still many of my friends of days gone by who are still alive However I feel reel Indeed fortunate In meeting as many as I did Jerome Paxton Rhea Hurley Lawrence Berry his wife wire Lee Rhoda Berry Fraser Buck Fred arose and a few others In my memory but not presently In mind I was agreeably agreeably agreeably agree agree- ably surprised to see you still retaining so many of your girlhood charms Indeed the years seem to have been very kind kindo to o you It will give me great pleasure In vIsitIng visiting visit vIsit- ing with Thomas Cupit In Santa Barbara Barbara Bar Bar- bara and reciting to him the many reactions reactions re reactions re- re actions as a result of my visit Toms Tom's father and mine came carne from England to together together together to- to gether and in all their roving It is noteworthy that they should decide on Park City as their final abode As neighbors It Is Ia understandable why Tom hla his sister Ann and I should have become be become become be- be come such fast friends I correspond re regularly regularly regularly re- re with Joe who now lives In New York State It will give me pleasure pleasure pleasure plea plea- sure to write a long letter to Joe totally blind as you know but even so still not with life as he finds It As AB you meet up with those mentioned above tell them how deeply grateful I Iam Iam Iam am that the opportunity was afforded me to see and talk with them After all the friends of our youth seem the dear dear- est eat Thanks to you and may a kind Providence Provi Provi- dence grant you a continuance of health and happiness Sincerely BERT PAPE Seventeenth Street Santa Monica California |
