F and enjoy my work a lot but now it is getting to be of such proportions that it really keeps us busy forwarding mall and locating mall mail for forthe forthe forthe the boys that are here and the boys that leave here to go to other theaters of war The Job Is quite a bIg g onE we have fourteen personnel working here filing typing tY locating rind ind forwarding and three on the windows in the financial section selling stamps writing money orders Just the same samo Job as you see every day In the tho Park City post office I work on the Insured parcel and re registered re- re registered mall mail delivery window and It keeps us going morning until night to take care of the business on this field Dad Im I'm going to say something here hero that may help some of the boys receive their packages In a little better I shape In the future than they have In Inthe Inthe the past To the people who are arc mailing parcels I to the boys In the services Please wrap the tho packages well put them In strong Containers strong enough to withstand I a hard beating while they are In transit from you to their ides le tion Pack j them well and tie very securely and tight so the string wont won't slip off either end of the parcel Then the real Important and the most often forgotten part of the parcel Address correctly and plainly the ser- ser service service vice mans man's complete address even down downto downto to the last number and even to the last little period or comma then you can I bet your boots that we the boys In the army postal service will get your parcels to your loved ones friends buddies I husbands or whoever they might be Parcels today take an awful licking In transit and then too Ive I've seen par- par parI parcels I f cels eels that have been shipped across the theL L' L con tin net 3 or 4 times and some have as high as 6 forwarding addresses bo bos' bos be- be besides s' s i r sides the original one so those parcels par els really get a chance to see what they are arc made of and we generally see sec what they arc are made up of after about the third or fourth forwarding they are beginning to lose their contents and every time we dump a a. sack with a 0 broken package or two In It we Just shudder because we know some lad Is going to be either cither sadly disappointed or get the surprise of his life cause the tile things Mom sent weren't In the package that ho received or that something had been added from the contents of or an nn- another another other package so please wrap pack and do securely and address plainly and well we'll seo see that they get there on time and In good condition Sorry to spend so much time tune on the ther r art of tending sending parcels but It has hns pray- pray prayed prayed ed cd on my mind day and night as to how can I tell them at home to help U. S having been valedictorian of or tho class of 33 He has many classmate and friends now in the service who win bo be proud To lo hear of his work and service that all may once again enjoy the peace that will follow World War II His parents left here some eight ye years rears ago to make their home in Green River Wyoming Mr fr Jones at the time bel being agent at the Union Pacific depot Dearest Mother and Dad Well now that the campaign in Sicily is over perhaps I can tell you a more about my month on that Island To begin with I was with a group th that landed on the southern coast of shortly after zero hour during the ile are hours of the morning of the invasion the landing craft I was on brought us t fairly close and we went over board and waded in with our equipment on our backs We started duties on the beach beach shortly thereafter of course there was excite excite- excitement ment anxious moments but our work wort continued By dawn we discovered that we were right at the edge of ot a tomato patch they were of or a type ty e of plum tomato an and were ripe and fairly good Close by up the beach were melon patches and grape grace grapevines gra vines we managed to find some that were ripe after the owners greeted us they were glad to see us and indicated that we were welcome to eat what ire xe wanted of course we passed out some me of our our rations and cigarettes and wry every thing was lovely For the first few nights n what sleep deep we wo got was In slit silt trenches and the lieu gave us no end of trouble later fe as moved to another portion of the bea beah ft b a few miles away and by this |
