Show South Summit School Controversy Continues When Peoa Oakley and Marion Marlon had been granted their schools In their re respective re- re respective communities September 3rd the committee asked that Mr J. J C. C Maxwell of Peoa and Ralph A. A Richards from Oakley signify their loyalty and interest to their communities by sending their children to the school In their own towns All committee members left lert the meet meet- meeting meetIng ing leg with the impression that our board members children would be at school In Oakley and Peoa respectively Monday morning Since this Mr Richards has denied giving this statement A meeting was held at Oakley that night to give the report to the people In which Mr Richards was present Mr Robert V. V Frazier gave the sum sum- summary summary mary many stating that the board had bad pro pro- promised promised to have the buildings in readiness so that Friday September regis regIs- registration regIstration would take tal e place and school would start Monday morning Septem Septem- September ber Probably temporary teachers would be hired to avoid delay Mr Mi Richards Richard's children would be In Oakley school and Mr Maxwells Maxwell's In Peoa He praised the loyal attitude of these two men Mr Richards seemed to be In harmony with all statements made as ho made no corrections to any of o them but answered questions pertaining to the schools Evidently Mr Richards changed his bis mind for his bis children went to Kamas the next morning and are still going there not to Oakley He Ho shows very little Interest If 1 any In our school The school he has given to the town children evidently is not good enough for his bis children Hard feelings between friends neigh neigh- neighbors neighbors neighbors bors and families Is the result The ward is hanging by a thread Is it worth worthwhile worthwhile worthwhile while We want you all to know that Mr Maxwells Maxwell's children are in the Peoa Peo school a fine lne community spirit exists there also a fine ward Mr Maxwell has represented his townspeople well A loyal man to a a. loyal caus cau e eThe The three schools are now going with two teachers each for five e grades SECRETARY OF COMMITTEES Oakley Utah September 11 1940 |
