Show I 1 fair crowd enjoy enio C athletic carnival entertainment de cle was furnished the tans fans who attended the athletic program tuesday night in the high school gym henry jones the vers versatile atlie grunt and groan bone belie twister from provo and jack brentano the comedian welterweight champion of canada provided the tans fans with some real entertainment both men upheld their timeworn time tune worn reputations henry proved to bg be fast and clever and brentano provided plenty ot of occasion lor for laughs and admiration henry started the festivities with a series of wrist locks lock brentano however was elusive enough to break the hold and came up with a vi headlock the situation appeared to be bad for the boy from provo after much struggling he finally broke free of brentano Brec tano and made a swift leap toward him the boy fro from m canada scarred off the mat in a method peculiar to himself a method which brought laughs and applause from the audience A series of body presses toe holds leg strangles halt half nelsons belsons nel sons and body slams followed jones proved his experience in applying the body slams they had a very marked effect on the boy from can 1 ada he came up from the body slam with fill a powerful leg strangle this proved to be his downfall for in doing so he left himself open to a half nelson from henry this was merged into a whip Bre shoulders were forced to the mat and jones was conceded the tall fall the time was fifteen minutes Bren brentano came back strong in the second period and apparently with a I 1 grudge he immediately employed tactics which will not be found in the code of good wrestling henry retaliated with a few tricks or of his own such as gouging the eyes and the nose stomping on his opponents feet and numerous other methods despite this there were streaks of clean wrestling and the terms were fairly even jones used tho the body slam to good advantage and on an two or three occasions he put his famous leg spread to use he has used the leg spread in numerous bouts to good advantage brentano also used this hold and the wrist lock brentano demonstrated EL a very efficient method of breaking the full nelson neison he gave henry a powerful butt in the stomach and the jones boy was fore forc I 1 ed cd to relinquish the hold immediately I 1 after this the boy from canada decided it was to be a necking party and consequently I 1 secured a firm grip on the I 1 portion of the jones anatomy known as the neck this Is an illegal as well as dangerous hold so jack the third man sri in the ring proceeded to break it brentano was very indignant and proceeded to gain revenge this added very much to the consternation of the mayor I 1 and placed him in a very precarious I 1 tion it was at this point that another J of the jones boys entered the bellee byron jones the local baton wielder wl elder came t to 0 the assistance of the mayor henry decided the odds were too heavy against brentano and throwing all sentiments of brotherhood in the gallery he again entered the scrap it was at this point that a certain high school principal who weighs in the neighborhood of two hundred pounds came charging into the ring for a few M moments c indents all that could be seen was a ta tangle n gle of legs and arms and a head I 1 protruding here and there several of the local gentry began stripping I 1 oft off their coats to lend assistance I 1 this was not necessary for the struggle ended as quickly as it had begun everyone J was in good condition except henry jones he had aggravated an old injury to his wrist and was as unable to continue each man having won a tall fall the bout was called a draw WO we must admire the courage of henry I 1 jones he ha had been forbidden to wrestle because of the braked wrist but rather than disappoint the fans he went on with the bout several boxing bolln and wrestling bouts two girls basketball games a tumbling exhibition and novelty dances preceded tile the main affair all wrestling bouts resulted in draws the following boys participated I 1 young ely vs young newbold cas per vs casper twins denson benson vs wor workman I 1 evans vs ramsdall mernon vs moline archibald vs mcgowan ace winn Ys vs bill mitchell Ml mcgarry vs hall I 1 nichols vs peterson graham vs snow i vs williams I 1 in the first basketball game the girls I 1 of the 1 I S 0 C defeated the rival 1 I P I 1 0 girls after a brilliant rally in the second game the high school defeated the alumni 18 to 4 A spanish dance by helen and a novelty dance by mary archer and annabelle hewitt brought rounds of applause from the audience T P |
