Show P legion annual party proves huge success the annual party of the past commanders commande r a and adjutants of the local post ot of the american legion was held at the athena athenaeum e um building on the evening of 0 saturday y february there was an attendance of members and invited guests delegations were present from the legion posts ot of magna Co coalville alville kamas and midvale the department ol of fibers otto alesley and norman sims were present the department adjutant otto wies alesley Wl esley I 1 ey addressed the meeting and stressed t the he legislative program now before congress and stated that the utah delegat delegation ic n with one exception Is supporting the legions effort in securing the immediate payment of the adjusted compensation certificates the universal draft bill v aich Is designed to take the profit motive out of making war the bill which provides that no needy widow or orphaned child of an ex cx service man of the world war shall be without some form of and which if passed will drive away the wolf of hunger and cold from the door of many a deserving home the department commander norman sims defined the different types of ex service men who do and may inay become legion members member tho the first type Is the one mho Is always a legionnaire through times of prosperity and depression who Is always with his buddies in any worthwhile community service who Is helpful to the disabled and those I 1 in ta want the second type are those who do nothing but pay their dues and will render no service whatsoever the third class are those who would u use s e the legion tor for purely selfish sellis tx purposes those who always attend free entertainments and tree free feeds are always hanging on to the coat tails of the legion and asking tor for services which the legion Is able to give but who refuse anything except criticism of the legion program refuse to become members if they do become members has a political motive behind him seeking support to achieve ach leve his ambition district commander W J bardsley spoke briefly of the membership status of district no 3 and urged the necessity of additional members at once it if we were to reach our quota re he stated that members Is our only war chest and it if the voice of the ex service men was to be heard in washington in the next two months that voice must shriek membership ber bers ship bip the musical entertainment consisted of songs by scotty scott baxter accompanied by mrs fletcher the boy buckaroos Bucca roos brought down the applause of the house everyone joined in the community singing ringing of war time songs A humorous skit by local talent put on a shot gun wedding which put legionnaires in a mellow mood tor for the dutch lunch which followed the visiting delegations were so well pleased with the party that they were reluctant to break away and go home W J BARDSLEY adjutant post no 14 |
