Show tribute to a pioneer in the passing of joan B gibson who died july 1932 at her home I 1 in salt lake city at the age of 85 86 years there departed one ot of the old pioneers ot of utah she crossed the plains with her parents in 1854 then a child of about nine years walking much ot of the way to lighten the heavily loaded teams she bhe was the widow ol of the late wm B gibson well known saw mill man near park city during the early years of 74 75 5 and 76 78 lumber from his mm mill went lato into the early construction of park city ald was wag used at the ontario mine his hl last location was at snyderville derVIlle ho be also maintained a lumber yard at salt lake city associated with his brother john gibson mrs gibson was the mother grandmother and great grandmother grand mother of 0 a numerous posterity A number ot of the gibson albeon family have long been residents of pork park city one of her sons was hoisting engineer at the sliver silver king mine for or some gome 33 years tho the funeral service for mrs mr gibson was waa held at the ward meeting house which Is close to her home G street here near the old gabson corner she abe had bad lived for nearly 69 years a choice part ot of the city not far from tr OM the kearns mansion manalon at her comfortable home just before the hour of service there met a large number of friends and relatives many old time park city people met there some som e seeing each other tor for the first time in over thirty years the occasion was something of a reunion of old timers the body lay in state amid a wealth of floral tributes which later decorated the largo large auditorium of the abe chapel and I 1 again at the end of the service each flor al piece was held by ladles ladies in a long lone double me file outside through which passed the funeral cortage cort it was a beautiful service among the speakers all old friends of the deceased 1 were three bishops C clarence Cla renco david lyon and wm win archibald the latter a well known Par partite kite who had been intimately acquainted with mrs gibson for some sixty years and who spoke feelingly of her many virtues the musical numbers rendered were remarkable and appropriate one could reflect that here was the end of EL a long life journey set in triumph blessed at the porting parting hour by many loving friends respectfully CHAS E STREET salt lake city utah july 25 1932 |
