Show fatal mine accident edmond edmunds a skip tender employed at the judge unit of the park utah consolidated company was instantly killed at a m this friday morning from the information gathered by coroner J C green who investigated the accident mr edmunds was loading a mine skip on the 1700 foot level when the cable broke loose from the skip and the unfortunate miner with the car he ha was waa loading were carried teet feet down the steep incline shaft into the sump at the bottom prom the appearance of the body it was terribly crushed and mangled probably every bone structure being broken martell denny the hoisting engineer noticed the loosening of the cable as soon as the accident happened and at once notified george erickson and shift boss J V thompson that an accident had happened in the incline investigation was immediately started and only a few minutes after the mangled body was found in the sump when the damaged skip Is hoisted to the surface for repairs the cause of the accident will be definitely determined it is presumed by the men who were w working with edmunds that an iron bolt 78 7 8 of an inch thick and four inches long that loins joins the cable and device of the skip broke thus releasing the skip and sent it crashing down the 62 per cent grade crade N R king patrick sullivan end and sam hunt who were working with mr edmunds on the night shift in that part of the mine misted assisted ln in bringing the lifeless body to the surface the deceased edmond james edmunds was a native of wales utan utah where he was born on november forty tour four years ago he had been in park city and an employee of the park utah for two years he resided with hla his family famay on park avenue rear of the sutton apartments deceased Is survived by his widow and two daughters patricia and irla aged five and two years respectively also his mother residing at wales utah three brothers thomas of omalia omaha nebraska E J and N J of salt lake and E J and D J of wales and one sister mrs mary barentson ot of fountain green utah funeral arrangements have not yet been completed but likely services will be held sunday under the auspices of the local post american legion of which ch deceased was an honored member |
