ICINGS I 1 with the assessment no 34 sent out this week to the stockholders of the three kings mining company I 1 A L hurley encloses the following brief report of mine conditions since the first of the year j all work south of the shaft has been abandoned there was quite a largo rg 0 amount of work done here with oth g litt little 1 or no success from an ore standpoint tit and the major portion of the work has been carried on oil north of the shaft in new territory while we have cut two or three very well defined fissures we been able to open up any ore however there should be a fissure some fifty or one hundred feet ahead of us ul which should be much stronger than any one I 1 I 1 we have cut up to date it Is the intention ot of the board of directors to do this amount of work and to drive some short raises on the fissures we have already cut and after this has been done unless we get iome some favorable results we propose to shut down until the general conditions improve at t the he present time we are entertaining a an n idea of taking on six or eight hundred act acres ea more territory in the neighborhood lf it we are successful in this we will try to work out a plan whereby three kings stockholders will not be required to put up any more money for the development or of same BO after we do the amount of work mentioned we will close down until we see what the outcome of this proposition may bring I 1 MIXES MINES CUT WAGES BY 25 23 4 CENTS 1 A DAY says wednesdays salt lake tribune wages at the underground mines of the state will be reduced by 25 cents a day on all denver mining record hopes to do something to restore silver and thereby by aid all commercial interests mr air smith said senator pittman Is working in n harmony with mr air brownell of the A S ar R on the silver issue they seem to agree that it first is important to induce england to cease selling the silver of the indian government while present silver t prices price are exceedingly low and to induce england to use a higher percentage of silver buver in blitsh coin I 1 SENATOR KING NEW DATA authority whereby the president of the he united states can call an international silver conference exists and has long existed according to a letter by senator william H king of utah to J A barclay president of the salt lake stock exchange in treating of the present silver situation senator king throws a number of interesting sidelights on the question stating that technically speaking the king senate resolution in which the president of the united states Is authorized to call an international conference was not necessary but by challenging attention again to the importance of the silver question and the necessity of restoring silver to its proper place in our monetary system senator king thought more could be gained by introducing and passing lassing a new resolution as was done hanby han than by referring back to the power al ready conferred on the president I 1 As tar far back as march 1897 congress passed a measure which contained the following provision I 1 whenever the president of the ted states shall determine that the uni i ted states should be represented at any j international conference called by the united states or any other country with a view to securing by international agreement a fixity of the relative value between gold and silver as money by means of a common ratio between these 1 metals with free mintage at such ratio 1 be may appoint five or more commissioners sio ners to such international conference bimetallism endorsed before that in 1893 congress had I 1 expressed itself tor for bimetallism when it declared that the policy of the united states stater was to continue the use of both gold and silver as standard money and to coin both gold and silver into money I 1 continued on page pour four I 1 mining matters I tah 1 tah H continued from page one as equal intrinsic and exchangeable value such equality to be secured through international ter agreement or by such safeguards of legislation as will insure the maintenance ot of the baity in value of the coins of the two metals and the equal power or of eve every r y del dollar lar at all times in in the maikels in the payment of debts the I 1 measure referred to says senator ator king further declared that the efforts of th the government should be steadily dire directo dl recto ciji to the estabi establishment ashment of such a sate safe system of bi bimetallism is in as will maintain at all times the equal power of every dollar ca coined ined or issued by the united states in the eakels and 1 in the payment of debts again in march 1900 says senator king congress passed another measure which in effect declared tor for international in bileta bimetallism cism and in favor of securing the same by concurrent action of the leading commercial nations of the world and at a ratio which a shall hall insure permanence permanence of et relative value between gold and silver no na action taken these legislative measures just ref referred e to says senator king clearly irid andl 1 cates that congress favored bimetallism I 1 find and that there should be a relative value be between teen gold god and silver as money by means of a co common in 0 n ratio between these imis two metals it Is to be regretted that since the passage or these measures effective steps step have not been taken to bilz realize the purposes indicated therein I 1 it Is important not only to countries producing silver but to all countries engaged in trade slid and commerce that measures be adopted to avert the disastrous consequences that will inevitably follow a further decline in the price of sliver sil and to secure an international agreement or n oi of an international policy that will the price of silver and obtain tor for it a suitable status in the I 1 monetary systems of the world 1 I believe that students ot of finance and statesmen are awakening to the fact that a tragic mistake was made when gold was waa fastened upon th the world voices are being raised 1 in all norte parts ot of the world in favor of raising silver from its lowly station and according to it an important position in the monetary systems ot of the world writers ot of ability declare that the unsatisfactory economic condition prevailing in all countries of the world Is largely due to the tiza tion of silver and to the unrelenting efforts to fasten the gold standard upon the peoples of the world I 1 the silver question cannot be said to be merely a local or national question but one which affects affect i all peoples it cannot be settled by one country alone but requires the operation cooperation co it if not ot of all countries then ot of the leading com commercial and producing countries ot of the world please assure the members of your yo ru organization that I 1 shall continue my n efforts on behalf of silver results which it if obtained will be of 01 benefit not only to utah and 1 the e united n is states but to all the world western mineral survey april A NEW BIG CUT AT THE THC PARK STANDARD general manager N A dunyon of the park standard Stan daid made a
