the big cottonwood district with those i in n charge as confident as ever of big ore bodies ahead good progress Is being made AT THE PARK STAN STANDARD DARD in a roundabout way word comes irom from the park standard the past week that development work goes steadily ahead at that property with indications decidedly promising and optimism cheering on the part ot of those in charge there Is every reason to believe there will be good news from this property one ot of these days SILVER KING COALITION PAYS 15 CENT DIVIDEND directors of the silver king coalition mines company voted a 15 cent per share quarterly dividend at their meeting monday in the company offices in the kearns keams building salt lake city the quarterly disbursement will be paid october to stockholders of 0 record september it Is dividend no 64 to be paid by the mines company the payment will call tor for the disbursement 0 of f 05 the payment ot of the dividend will bring total dividends paid by silver king coalition mines company to 65 which added to the amount pai paid d by the original silver king mining company ol of will make a grand total of ETERNAL KNOCKERS it Is almost beyond comprehension that park city men some engaged in business and others engaged professionally and in the trades in this city will ignorantly and persistency knock and hammer and slam clam park city mining enterprises terp rises the same men lully fully realizing it if they are mentally capable ot of realizing anything that the very life and existence en c e of park city as well as their own depends entirely on the one grea great t industry ot of mining as that la is our only industry in our city but such Is the tact fact nevertheless th the e only reason that can be assigned Is a senseless and unjust prejudice against a man who has made a life study ot of mining and who has during the past three years spent hundreds ot of thousands of 0 dollars in park city giving steady employment to scores ot of men and who Is still paying out huge sums ot of money every month in developing known mineralized erali zed property in this district and which promises to b be a placed in the steady producing class within the next few months it was last friday that mr B H erb a gentleman well versed in geology and an experienced miner who for years mined in idaho colorado nevada and other western states was a visitor in park city mr erb had recently sold his farming property in canada and had bad been on an extended visit in the northwest and southern california and was returning to make his home in pennsylvania where his aged father now resides being a stockholder in the star of utah he thought while stopping over in salt lake tor for a day or two he would make a trip to park city to visit the property and size up conditions for himself he came up by stage thursday afternoon ter noon on the stage were two park city men and during the ride in conversation with these Par kites mr erb asked their opinion of the star of utah and mayflower properties they admitted to the visitor they had never been at the property but was certain it was not worth bothering with that reports pertaining to the property was hot air and no chance whatever of them ever becoming mines etc etc this was a bit discouraging to mr erb and he be wondered why residents of a mining city should knock a property that at least was doing development work and keeping a force of men employed and giving them a pay day twice a month upon his arrival in park city after registering at the new park hotel he be called on the local secretary of the star of utah and arranged to visit the property the following day that evening at the hotel he engaged in conversation with local guests of the hotel and anxious tor for their opinion as to the property he was about to visit drifted the conversation around to the star of utah it was like touching off a fuse attached to a bomb these local guests who indirectly are benefited by the pay rolls of the star of utah and adjacent properties under the same management laughed at the question and informed the inquirer thit the properties mentioned were only r hoax or words to that effect that the promoters had bad big holes in the ground A 1 but had no ore nor would never have etc etc despi despite t e the knocks and slams a against these park city properties mr erb was taken over to the properties friday morning spending the greater portion ot of the day in inspecting and a studying maps map conditions etc upon hla his return to the city that evening mr erb called at the record office and asked the reporter to emphatically state over his signature if necessary that reports given out to strangers regarding the properties visited were not only false but malicious and reflected anything but credit on the parties circulating cu such reports mr erb further stated that in all his bis mining experience he had bad never seen more thorough development work prosecuted than that being done at both of these properties nor more promising indications of both becoming producers in the near future he condemns these local people tor for their lack ot of loyalty toward local honest mining enterprises and urges them to at least visit the properties they apparently delight in condemning and see for themselves the immense amount of work that has been done and the manner in which it Is done to acquaint themselves with the plan of development under way and at least show an interest in the effort being made to make a mine mr erb Is satisfied it if this was done these same knockers would return convinced as he was convinced that every dollar invested la is being honestly expended with a reasonable certainty that both properties were nearl nearly rp the point of becoming big producers if you cant boost at least dont knock honest and persistent endeavors to uncover more ore bodies in this tamed famed district ot of ours ALL INDUSTRY SHOULD SUPPORT MINING there should be better team work between the different interests who are all dependent upon the mining industry tor for a livelihood western bus business I 1 ne rs men striving I 1 for better business should vigorously support the mining industry and RISO also support the newspapers brokers and promoters that are working for the development of new mines the mining engineer should not stand aloof he also should take off his coat and help develop this great industry some engineers are so BO tearful fearful of their reputations that they are afraid to recommend the development of e even v en a good looking prospect it takes i a little optimism to keep the mining industry in the road to progress the engineer can well afford to be an optimist as regards the prospect that will stand up under examination sure things are usually poor things the speculator c alator wants a large profit and Is hlll willing ang to chance the development of a prospect into a mine there Is room for many brokers and promoters in the western mining industry there Is a constant cry tor for independent advice as regards this or that mining stock the independent broker has a role to fill there are many good prospects that await financing promoters with vision and ability are needed to finance this development provide employment to miners and add to the wealth of the nation bankers want more gold produced bankers should support the mining industry and be unafraid to recommend a good mining stock when they know it Is good they recommend eastern bonds and eastern stocks and ot of times the mining stocks make dollars where the eastern issues make cents there Is a greater operative cooperative co spirit in the west toward mining camp newspapers that are working constantly tor for the support of this great industry the mining news in the west Is more mor e important than any other news t that hat Is printed business of the west Is to a great extend founded upon the pro prosperity sper of the mining industry when the mining business Is good there Is good business lor for all we should all work together to improve this big industry whenever pos possible sible denver mining record LOOK TO THE PAST AND FUTURE eighty two years ago within the memory of living people gold was found in california the great trek westward began the populating and development of the west was the direct result of the discovery of its vast metal resources today the western states have many industries many interests many sources of prosperity but in many of these states mining Is still the principal industry such western metals as copper lead and zinc are indispensable to progress and industrial expansion yet in spite of its fine record the mining industry has never been free from attack laws have been proposed and sometimes passed which have added to the difficulties of operation their sponsors have not realized that anything inimical to mining Is felt not only by the Indu hundreds of thousands of workers but by all other industries wl within th the state of which the mines are a leading customer there has been much agitation to materially increase mining taxes the recent general Indu industrial I 1 depression which w was as felt severely by the mining industry Is indicative of what might happen if such efforts succeed it Is to be hoped that the thinking citizens of the west with an eye to both the pnat past and the future will protest against anything that interferes with the progress of their oldest industry SILVER AT THE BOTTOM it Is confidently believed by careful students of the silver situation that the price of silver will be steadily increased as buyers throughout the world are impressed in with the belief that the lowest point has been reached says the mining congress journal prance france Is reported to be purchasing silver the indian government has disposed of P practically all of the silver which it planned to sell and the chorded silver in the hands handa of the people of india Is not likely to be put upon the market the hope that the chinese situation promises to become more stable leads to the belief that china will again be a purchaser of sliver silver the present low price has put a handicap upon production which will soon be apprent apparent in world output the plan which has been recommended to china tor for the adoption of a gold standard Is a 8 plan which anticipates that through many years to come china will gradually work toward this goal but this does not mean the displacement of sliver silver as a ing medium but only that silvers value shall be stabilized on the basis of gold A stable currency la Is essential to increasing business and business demands an increased circulating medium the increase of 0 civilization which always follows in the wake ot of a destructive war gives promise that silver Is now seeing its worst day and that the future will surely bring about a condition in which the vast amounts ot of silver will be turned into the channels ot of trade as subsidiary coinage and that vast advances in civilization which means increased needs and increased consumption will add shortly to world trade through which every important nation cation will be benefited SILVER KING WESTERN this big mining venture Is being pushed ahead with all possible speed through the spiro tunnel word irom from those in charge the record learned today that within the next month the workings aou would be in the companas comp anys ys own ground when news ot of interest will likely be given g I 1 ven out tor for publication very little ls Is heard ol of the silver king western yet notwithstanding it la Is one ot of the big mining propositions ot of the district THE PARK CITY CON continual improvement Is noted
