Show I 1 record of our legion post UNION LABOR OFFICIALS SAYS win nell neil commander of the local american legion received the following communication from C J hayms as secretary ot of the los angeles cen t aral r at labor council and will prove interesting a t te er reading to our readers and will show that the stories regarding the american legion and the labor quest question lon ar are unfounded ao i in n a recent issue of the journal there was published an article telling about the organization in los angeles Call california for of a post of the american legion composed entirely of members of organized 1 labor secretary treasurer thos kennedy has received a letter from the adjutant ot of this post giving the details of the organization which will be of I 1 interest 31 to every member of the united ted mine workers ot of america the letter Is as follows t dear sir and brother labora the los angeles organized labor movement has baa in its midst the unto labor post no of the american legion we feel quite proud of 0 this post A find and the fact that apparently it Is 13 the first of its kind in the united states the charter being installed june 12 1920 we are receiving letters and requests fr from various parts ot of the country tor for information regarding this post and as asking for applications these applications application t and requests lor for information have been gladly given and we hope that similar posts will be started throughout the land we are trying to keep this post within the confines of ex cx service men connected with organized labor although this post does not violate the principles laid down in the constitution of tho the american legion regarding discrimination we feel that we would like to have this post at least composed of men who carry cards in the organized labor movement but of course will admit others wo we took great care in looking the situation over before taking steps to form this post and found that there was nothing within the american legion that would conflict with the principles of organized labor but that all are organized with the idea of standardizing upward making life a little easier with more sunshine for all and that by closer operation cooperation co between the organized labor m movement nt and the american legion the beof ebach 9 goal of f each will be reached much easier and the road on the way to that goal may bo be shortened with many obstacles removed still bearing in mind that it la a common cause tor for the good of all concerned we read in the history of the american legion and find that the words of wisdom of samuel gompers who was in fix attendance as an honored guest at every convention of the american legion while he lived carried great weight and helped to perpetuate the alms and ideals of both great organizations and to instill in the minds of those concerned that both organizations were banded together for the sake of humanity president william willism green Is carrying on since president gompers was called away and with the same thoughts and ideals in v view the same Is true of the conventi conventions ons 0 of f the american federation of labor w when hen an honored guest and speaker appears tor for the american legion who Is none other than the national commander you perhaps wonder why I 1 have taken the liberty of writing you but will state that we hope you may give this the proper publicity and insert same in your publication or journal so it may reach your general membership |
