institution the obstruction and ana difficulties to be overcome are very great and numerous this Is as true of the american system of public education sa as it was or of the great roman senate because ot of this tact fact the national education association has set aside a week each year known as american education week the purpose of this week Is to acquaint the public with the work achievements and needs ot of the schools this year education week begins on armistice day november bilth and ends on sunday november the parents of school children in particular and the public in general throughout the country are urged during this week t to acquaint c themselves with the work and needs ot of the children and teachers la in the schools ot of america 00 Q first high school assembly today october alth the tint first high school assembly will be held the program will be given by the faculty the students are eagerly looking forward to this event for two reasons the first reason leason Is that the assembly pro programs are very enjoyable enoy able occasions the lend second one Is that the students expect an extraordinary program this time because the faculty is giving it everybody has remembered that past experiences has shown the members of the faculty to be splendid actors and entertainers no one expects an entertainment to equal the faculty play of last year the girls have good 2 voices too but as their voices are more often heard the praise goes to the boys whose talents have heretofore been undiscovered and therefore their newly discovered ability to sing came as a pleasant and agreeable surprise the teachers seem to think it is their turn to have some fun as they are giving the term examinations very generously this week the students hear nothing but examination questions on all sides last friday the seniors were confronted by an english test from the expressions on their faces the gnawing of their pencils and the gashing of their teeth it was breaking into the general routine the freshmen now feel that they are becoming accustomed to alph school life and they are proving themselves real students ranking almost as high in their english grades as the majority of the upper classmen clasemen class men they exhibited the right type of school spirit which should be shown at the football games by having a large percentage of their class freshmen expect to get revenge however mr air bell has strengthened his weak spots and he hopes his team will repeat by a greater score bates and allison starred tor for the eighth grade while midget week mr egan of the state bank gave us a splendid talk on the world war telling us ua what our country did to defend the constitution tit u tion ution he showed us many trophies alt that he had bad brought from germany arid and france all of which were very interest ng we were also favored with a most moat beautiful selection by the ladles double trio mesdames egan taylor jones morrow goodwin
