treasure island and many a are r e tha discussions ol of the characters a and n d scenes of this interesting book which takes place in the english room very few of the students agree on the appearances pe arances of certain characters and scenes in fact many students think they could greatly improve the scenarios of their classmates it if they were given the busly lance chance however each scenario Is jealously guarded by its owner better be car careful e ful miss or the freshler tresh fresh les win wIll be deserting the english class for the more mor a interesting movies moving pictures are a r e certainly a relaxation after orations on the constitution and serious debates 0 on n advertising the freshman girls are feeling proud of themselves for they served their first banquet wednesday the banquet was given for the port fort douglas band the girls were excellent waitresses and few errors were made keep up the good work girls and you soon will have it over on tho the the freshmen students who are studying french have almost of ever learning all I 1 I 1 of the french verbs it seema as if every word one looks at in french Is a verb one student complains she selects an interesting story and its lust one verb chasing another verbs of every description le par flat le present I 1 le passe compassed Com passe and a million others until the poor student ate verbs slept verbs and breathed verbs for weeks after she had tried to read the difficult trench french story still miss ollard Is giving verbs the algebra students stu dente are learning a great many of the algebra a students tu dents MAWHINNEY 32 4 SOPHOMORE REPORT the spanish B students are beginning to teel feel older they received new books and they teel feel as proud over them as a first grade child does over a new primer they had their test on the old books according to the pleased expressions on their laces faces they appear as though they had done very well john grachen attempted to pull six an april fool stunt on miss ollard he gave 1 her some highly peppered peanuts the lady having a nery flery sense ot of taste was quite fond of them she does not only speak spanish but has acquired a spanish thail taste so the students believe that john was the one to be april tooled fooled I 1 miss ollard seemed to be the favorite I 1 target lor for april fool stunts another soph told her that someone was at the door seeing the twinkle in the students eye she said you may interview the person yourself the student was completely nonplussed nonplus sed for he know whether to go out and carry on a conversation with himself or not I 1 the sophomore english class has been working hard lor for a change some of the ara wondering whether they will get overtime pay on their next reports the two sections race each other one is busy the other Is busier miss I 1 give the students time to have spring fever she Is going to give them a series of progressive tests which will keep I 1 them out ot of mischief lor for a p long time to come I 1 the home economics girls have been been cooking luncheons end and banquets lor for the debaters orators board members and the fort bugl douglas concert men according to all indications these meals were certainly worthy of the name banquet virginia brown had a birthday it seems to be an unusual occur ance lor for her for her people took her to salt lake and showed her a good time she really enjoyed it better than school the sophomore boys are dreaming of the time soon to come when they will be juniors they are beginning to spruce uva up tor for it wont be long now till they are high and mighty seniors they are already beginning to look down dowil upon them selves as sophomores it dawned on oil the girls yet they are too busy learning culinary art in order to become efficient wives the class clam extends its most heartfelt sympathy to luella barben in the recent bereavement ot of her beloved aunt mrs C main WALLACE jl 31 W 40 crowded out last week are many pretty girls ais in this operetta not only are they pretty but they have talent both in dancing and singing 9 they are also gen ulses to work mr thompson seems untiring in his eff efforts os to have his operetta a success he has been thinking seeing eating and a sleeping leeping operetta surely it wm will be a total success due to the interest and efforts of 0 all ot of those participating in it aw 0 LINCOLN SCHOOL NOTES judging from the number of marble players in school one would think spring was here we think the boys 2 are re right and that spring has been sidetracked but we hope that both will be in harmony soon our operetta the toy shop and our play the taming of a woman cyclone Is 18 progressing very nicely we hope to have it in perfect preparation a week before the date of its rendition we have more mora than forty children in the operetta and nine characters in the play our date selected was april 13 12 but due to the tact fact that the firemans foremans Fi remans ball ta is on that date we have selected april alth tor for ours oum for the last two weeks our first grade has been learning all they can about the land of the wooden shoes pictures posters and reading charts lave have helped instill interest and boys and girls are becoming quite adept as windmills ture the hh second grade has finished its picture show ow they will have a B matinee soon the children i i mode made the pictures the tage stage and curtains the plan Is to have an one e girt girl tell the story while the other children I 1 make up the picture it la is an I 1 IF interesting project and the children have enjoyed working it out our third fourth and fifth grades made the best show showing in g la in the city in the recent tests in the fundamentals of arithmetic th given by superintendent alston our showing was indeed very gratifying lt it was so much better than last year that we certainly feel proud of ourselves we have le had contests ts in ia these fundamentals merit als all year and it certainly pays the fifth grade give their monday morning assembly on april 1 I it wont be i a joke though lor for they have been preparing for or some time the raspberry red bed Is lust just about completed all parents are invited some of the students of the eighth grade have started their examinations la in penmanship most of them hope to get inwards awards tor for proficiency in penmanship I 1 and we know they will not be disappoint ed SANGER JACKSON le aw washington SCHOOL for foi week ending march pupils of the fourth grade have been busy the post past week in language work note making king booklets of a lew few of the most noted d authors whose stories are read by children these have appropriate cover designs of tree free hand cutting in the same room the third grade are on clo booklets and all kinds of illustrative material has been furnished by the pupils the first ant grade are enjoying themselves during the art period in malting making phonic booklets and picturing them with cut outs cuts grade two Is drilling on the multiplication tables and in spare time malc mak ing flower ports for their artificial howera A number ot of the fifth grade pupils have received the shield sent out by the knighthood of youth many bright colored spring flowers are being drawn and painted the usual drawings bathe often we have six health posters up in our room now we are all trying to do what these posters tell us third grade the third grade boys are making bird houses siad and we have seven already in LARGE AUDIENCE the oratorical contest on the constitution ution of the united states Is now history as far as park city high school Is concerned it was a thrilling occasion even if park city did lose first place the stage was beautifully decorated with ferns easter lules lilies and rotes roses in a living room setting which was lighted by three elegant floor lamps As each youthful orator appeared he be was enthusiastically applauded ty by the large audience of between tour four and five hundred students and patrons of the school each orator did exceptionally wen well and no school felt ashamed of its representatives gene payne who was wag a student of park city last year and la Is now at wasatch high was the first speaker he be spoke of Llo lincoln colix and the constitution he was followed by clarence rich of morgan who spoke kion on the origin of the constitution mr rich was in the oratorical contest last year and represented this div division 11 slon at salt lake city he spoke spate on the subject tho the citizen ills his privileges and duties under the constitution dorothy don the first girl to speak then dell delivered vered her oration on the constitution ution n in the dally daily life of the individual ol edith johnston of coalville CO alvIlle next discussed wilson allson and the constitution ution bill stoner who won second place last year then gave his oration on the citizen his privileges and duties under the constitution he was followed ed ty by miss ruth littlefield of morgan w who h 0 discussed the constitution a 0 guarantee ua rantee ot of person liberty the decisions ot of the judges were tabulated by the coaches of the schools represented mr alston who was the district chairman and who conducted this contest also tools took charge of tabulating the results of the contest according to the count ford fisher received first place with six votes dorothy DO don see second place with eight votes clarence rich third with nine bill stoner fourth with eleven the judges were mr maughn mrs wilcox and mr Paul sara sare of salt lake city A citizen of salt late lake city whom mr maloney state chairman had appointed named these judges although the park city orators did not receive first place they never appeared to better advantage nor did they ever speak better the student body faculty superintendent and patrons were indeed proud of them their speeches were outstanding their delivery very good their appearance excellent ford fisher the winner h bad ft poise on oil page awol school notes continued from page one and easiness of delivery that la is seldom seen in a young man of his age this Is probably aro bably the point which won the vote of the judges although they said eald nothing as to why mr fisher won and the others lost mr fisher has an excellent voice and appearance and will represent this division creditably the entire student body ot of park city wishes him success and aid hopes he wins for utah the student body Is to be commended highly lor for its enthusiastic support 0 of its orators school spirit has not run so high during the entire year after the contest was over the student body officers gave a luncheon to the orators their coaches and the judges miss hauser and the domestic science girls prepared and served the luncheon from every point of view the oratorical contest has been much worthwhile even if park city did not win first place all the students have a more enthusiastic thus thusia lastic appreciation tor for their government because all of them have made a study of it moreover they have written an and d spoken enthusiastically concerning it they have also learned that it Is a valuable training to learn leam how he to t be good losers what they have learned learne doand and experienced during this contest can never be taken from them it has really become part of them 40 4 DO IRD iea larrs AND faculty ENJOY DINI DINNER NER A delicious dinner was served to the school board members and ana their wives mr arid and mrs mra alston and ana miss urle uric and the members ot of the faculty and their wives tuesday of this week in the domestic science department by miss hauser and the girls ot of the home economics department part ment the tables were arranged in the form I 1 of a grecian cross with a beautiful cen 1 tex piece of sweet peas from this ce center inter 1 piece were mere extended pink streamers large 0 o I 1 pink candles tied with white bows were placed at the points of the tha cross small I 1 pink candles on a pedestal of white I 1 i mints and life savers were the favors dainty pink baskets which had bad been made by the girls and which were filled with small pink mints were placed at each guests plate the dinner was served in three courses and consisted 0 of the following fruit Cock cocktail tall I 1 roast florist pork candied sweet wee potatoes creamed peas in tumbles kimbles hot rolls butter balls jellie olives and nut salad pineapple parfait macaroons Maca Macar roonE coffee cream sugar miss hauser and her girls deserve dese mh ve much praise tor for this exceptionally good dinner and for the perfect style in which it was served such occasions are highly beneficial since it 16 brings board members and faculty members in close social contact that results in lifting the tha school to a higher level the faculty ers take this opportunity to thank mr alston and the board not only tor for the delicious dinner but also for the happy occasion ot of I 1 getting better acquainted 40 0 0 DEBATERS DEBATER 9 HAVE PRACTICE DEBATES the debaters do not intend to permit anyone in this division to walk away with the honors in debating this week they will have a practice debate with school notes continued fr page two the seventh period this debate will take place on monday of next week debaters will lourney journey to maysville where they will have a return debate with davis county high school they also plan to spend at least one day at the public library at salt lake city gathering material the league debates will not begin tor for some time bill stoner and dorothy don dom park cites orators delivered their orations at the elks club monday evening it Is reported that they gave them even better than the they did at the contest friday they have the spirit of true sportsmen 40 aa the reporter must not forget to mention the splendid help that mr thompson and his bis orchestra gave at the oratory cal contest friday they played several selections while the th judges were |
