duality which was present at this gathering ing made the teachers feel that they were indeed among friends and neighbors it also made them realize that teachers are welcomed and appreciated in this city the high school faculty sincerely hopes that it may be able to make worth while contributions to the community and that the feeling of good will so prevalent last thursday may be extended and permanent 40 40 4 bill jones will remain here during this entire year it Is earnestly desired that every teacher and student become as quain quainter ted with this philosopher ile he has the most valuable lessons to teach from which an all may gather wisdom it if every student will put into practice the advice he gives there will be no failures next spring everyone will desire to make the most of his life and he will be happy dont forget to visit mr jones every day 0 4 one Is safe in saying that there Is not another high school building ln in the state more beautiful nor more convenient than that of park city the students appreciate their new home and have taken excellent care of it so tar far this year there are six sixty ty five new comers in this building the faculty welcomes them and Is glad to do all in its power to make them happy and efficient students there a 9 teacher who Is not personally interested in each of these new students however no one will tolerate tor for one moment any student who mars or dessl crates this beautiful edifice these younger students must learn leam right now that this building must be kept clean and beautiful they must feel a reverence tor for it even as the older students do let this warning be sufficient I 1 ap 4 0 it is a pleasure to note the interest which the students are showing in reading magazines and books at the noon hour one may see students gathered around the reading tables in the library students are inquiring anxiously of the librarian just what books are worthwhile reading tor for recreation and enjoyment is a most profitable use of leisure time good books are the best of friends and the most pleasant companions bill jones will likely have something to say of this 4 graduates of last year are calling at the high school dally daily asking tor for a transcript of their credits some who have called are harris mills who will attend the agricultural college at logan george dark clark fay thomas mildred axelrad and school in a community means much to young people and no young man or woman can afford not to be a high school graduate as 0 0 49 all students should check library books with mrs airs jackson each friday books may be renewed but it if they are not checked a fine of five cents will be charged for every day they are overdue mrs jackson Is accommodating and pleasent pleasant always students should not cause her necessary work ly y not attending to this matter promptly aw 40 40 A funny coincidence happened at school this week bill jones met everyone monday happily but beseeching the students to practise his bis philosophy lie he says that everyone should help the new comers instead of hindering them by laughing at and teasing them the queer thing about this was that the student body responded very enthusiastically they had decided that the poor little freshmen needed help instead of hindrance the freshmen have been wandering around school looking very dazed and mixed up they seem unable to get used to bells ringing every forty five minutes the student body because of this decided that fre freshley fresh shies les would appreciate an entertainment rather than an unwelcome initiation 4 40 0 alleen aileen greenwood and virginia mcginley have been placed on the staff of the record to assist helvi lahti with the typing they with the assistance of jack wilson did all the winters failed in his duties to society by not attending the teachers reception given by the community church the rest of t the e teachers e t 3 le the a assert ert that this was the reason for their lr giving him the task and expense of supplying candy for the party perhaps this Is so but it seems a significant fact that mr winters Is the mathematics teacher and might acal dently do a small problem in addition while he was paying the price of his torme former negligence the waffle bust as experienced by mt mr greenwood the most resourceful member ol of thi the faculty mrs jackson was the chief promoter of an informal social held on tuesday afternoon of this thi week at tour four she was ably assisted by her two original colleagues Mis sUrle gUrle and ami miss hauser mr alston and all called the party a wat war lla bust it if it had not been tor for bhicks nashes and fords it Is quite possible that the name chosen tor for this unique social event would have proved significant fortunately lor for the participants the jollification did not end as a tragedy although the generosity of the ladles who entertained was a sore temptation to the men present delicious divinity and fudge were temptingly placed about in large quantities mr winters assisted by miss hauser had prepared this part of the luncheon as penance for not attending the reception given to the teachers last week by the community church in order to show their appreciation ot of the waffles of such exceptional quality mr alston and mr greenwood demonstrated I 1 their ability as cooks by preparing the waffles for the hostesses they the waffles were so deliciously brown that mr smith and mr air olsen decided to have a sixth helping of course mr thompson also ate with the cooks miss ollard and miss mira ballard misted assisted the superintendent with the waffle irons mr adamson was so busy on the football field that he took hla his waffle in hla his hand and made a hasty exit the guests assisted by the hostesses cleared up 0 science department in a science class this week mr smith electrified the students by casually announcing noun cing that the papers of the said class would go into the english department the entire class was stunned for a moment and then someone feebly asked why he explained that these papers would help to make up the english grade of the students it cannot be said that this efficient plan of sir air smith and miss met universal approval it has often been proved however that the best medicine has haa the bitterest taste everyone la Is sure that this plan will be a wonderful aid in the practical use of english I 1 OKEEFE 30 40 40 social science the social science department have had exams tor for the past week everyone was studying about the egyptians hebrews opportune time tor for the reporter to say what sho she wants to this week has been a joyous one at school as tar far as music Is concerned mr thompson has already trained his band so well that it plays such peppy music that even the dignified teachers feel as if they wished to dance tuesday of this week that was just before the waffle bust it was simply Ir the singing has also been lively and cheerful at the seventh period little bertha fletcher has so expanded her lungs that she has grown at least an inch the last week 4 49 hikes rik ea sunday afternoon mr thompson chaperoned seven girls on a hike up the airy mountain and down the shady glens the splendor of the mountains worked a spell over these folks from the eastern states they say shades of crimson yellow green and golden brown blended into the scenery made a wonderful background tor for the crystal lakes powerful binoculars enabled the hikers to view the stocks of grain and hay in wasatch county and seemed to bring the midway Re reservoir sevoir under their noses the high altitude effected the hearts of several in the party they besought the leader a number of times to stop atop and allow at small intervals tor for breathing the students were wondering why some of the teachers seemed so stiff boned and troubled with their smiling muscles but probably this Is caused from overexertion over exertion on this particular hike the entire school hopes the hikers become less frequent or that the teachers become more limbered up and more mora accustomed to climbing the adjacent hills PAXTON 30 44 aw park city
