Show labor day celebration thanks to the park city volunteer fire deportment department and particularly to the committee thereof who arranged the details including fire chief berry olenn glenn ridge will marshal st jeor in fact the entire membership for they are all willing active workers park city had one of the nic cleanest attractive labor day celebrations in its history with the entire population participating therein and scores ot of visitors from salt lake provo ogden heber kamas valley and other places adding to the throng and all enjoying the day to the limit it was one of those pleasing successes that will be talked about tor for years to corce come the day was an ideal one lor for enjoyment tile the celebration was ushered in before sunrise by the booming ot of explosives high up ip on masonic mountain by 9 a ar the streets were thronged thron ged with people people with hundreds hundred of happy children gayly attired assembling from all parts of the city with main street lined with flags from one end to the other enchanting music by the thirty eighth infantry band n U S A of salt lake city and the clever cleve wasatch high school band of heber city and with an enthused holiday spirit prevailing on all sides made an animated scene that was indeed inspiring I 1 the parade the parade was the big feature of the day and what a parade it was conceded by everybody to be far the best beat ever seen in park city and because of the thoughtfulness of marshal st jeor chairman of the traffic committee no automobiles torno to biles or other vehicles were allowed on main street from froin to 1230 thus giving an unobstructed view to the many hundreds of people who thronged thron ged both a sides ides of the street to witness the parade and the sports that followed it was 10 when the parade started it was headed by a cordon of police followed by thomas P F kearns of salt lake as marshal of the day with his aides james ivers jr and capt W C green U S A on blooded horses from the park city stables of mr kea kearns m 8 three color bearers members of amera american can legion fort douglas band a splendid showing of boy scouts the old time stage coach with del redden fadling the ribbons and filled with wild westerners in cowboy rain ment then came a typical old time prospector portrayed by micky mikesell Ml kesell to perfection with a typical sleepy slow moving burro roman chariots attached to crery steeds with handsome costumed drivers a real irish two wheeled gig with as perfect an irishman as could be found in the 17 8 A J C hanley with high hat pipe and whip as driver of the single horse with an unchangeable facial expression that was perfect two charming irish las sies misses isabell isabel barben and maude ridge riding on each side of the gig finely decorated float of the woodmen goodmen of tho the world followed by an attractive group of neighbors of woodcraft L D S primary display earths finest flowers which won admiration and applause kawanis club in decorated auto handsome float B P 0 elks will mawhinney driving a 1928 model oldsmobile followed by charles wright driving an 1908 model some contrast the clown band in clown harry A thompson wayne lewis chick conion melville dingle and george parrell farrell the comic hit of the parade was the atlantic city bathing revue impersonated by attractive shapely atlantic city belles attired in very abbreviated unbuttoned costumes and what they do oil ion their decorated float in the way of fancy dancing high ticking kicking grotesque I 1 gyrations slapping etc would not bo Wasatch high school band of heber city come came next this organization Is composed of 0 young men and women with attractive uniforms well drilled and furnishing splendid music winning much deserved commendation following was the park city band of mercy under the leadership of mrs W A adams and making a good showing miss lile nelson park cites sweet pea queen followed with a beautifully decorated sweet pea car and then came best crop and what EL a splendid promising crop close on to of smiling happy children unexcelled anywhere in the world each carrying a toy balloon the whole combination reflecting great great credit on greatest raining mining camp the park city fire department with its fine equipment and uniformed fire fighters then the business floats of our home merchants including water right etc following the parade the advertised childrens sports took place on main street crowds watching the youngsters strive for prizes the water fight between members ol of the fire alre department on main street proved an interesting event affording much amusement and clever manipulation on the part of the contestants contes tents and was won by the team composed of firemen M mikesell Ml kesell len lea wm win prudence klyde peterson and delmo johnson the mucking contest on the playgrounds attracted a big crowd and proved very interesting the contesting teams were composed of earl stewart john loule louie moya and L Padd Fad lUla dillia of the judge henry franey vie vic henderson D 3 murray and jack slane of the silver king coalition the judge miners won tha three prizes the best time was made by L Pad dillia five minutes and falty one seconds in the handling of a ton of dirt the baseball game between the park city team vs heber city team was won by the former 12 to toa 4 it was quite an interesting game notwithstanding the score mayor ridge covering himself rosell hl with baseball glory by making an unassisted double play the celebration was brought to a
