nashville tennessee this Is a city of some people plenty of business with nothing of pare titular interest to see and nothing to t we tte it with but street cars t I 1 W 4 4 sunday in a southern city is as quiet is a churchyard and nashville on the sabbath is no exception everything Is I 1 f dosed closed with the exception of churches I 1 hotels botel sand and restaurants even some of the I 1 latt latter er closing their doors saturday night until monday morning notwithstanding I 1 i vie e visited the parks circled the city on street cars and all in all enjoyed the day very much because of its quietness slid and restfulness 1 4 0 the pilli cipal place of interest in nashville or near nashville is the hermitage I 1 th the C old plantation of general andrew jakson jackson old hickory former president of the united states this old plantation with the old mansion and nearly all the personal effects of the general and his wife with their tomb the old log house the spring and spring house magnificent view lb is obtained from the top with the picturesque tennessee river seen for many miles with its many sharp turns and twists 4 0 4 lookout mountain Is known throughout the civilized world tor for its scenic beauty and historic interest from this eminence can be seen in addition to the broad curves ot of the tennessee river the moccasin bend signal mountain raccoon mountain missionary ridge and other heights and vast expanses of lolling country lor for many miles around it Is generally conceded the magnificence of this panorama from point lookout cannot be equalled equal led in this country it was certainly a sight long to be remembered 0 00 the battle above the clouds fought on lookout mountain was fought on oil november 24 1863 hookers corps union during the afternoon of the protected by heavy guns climbed up the sides of the mountain amid the thick mists which completely enveloped the steep and craggy heights Wal bil gade confederate consisting of 2089 men with reinforcements were holding the mountain confederates abandoned the mountain at 2 a in on the retreating down its sides across chattanooga creek valley to missionary ridge hundred automobile it has many outstanding features and monuments and tablets mark the events of the battle and generals on the sides of this mountain Is operated the steepest cable car lines in the world one
