Show RURAL RELIGION UNDER THE direction of the council of churches of america of the largest newspapers of the united states have a er poll that is of vital importance and very great interest the returns show that of the more than people who answered the questions asked depre continued on page seven EDITORIAL continued from page four benting every section of the country 91 per cent say they believe in god eighty five per cent say they believe in the bible and that it is inspired and 76 per cent attend church re regularly cru barly just 87 per c ent cent say they do not want to rear their children in in a community where there are no churches and 72 per cent send their children to sunday school but only 42 per cent have a any ny sort of family worship atheme the part of the poll in which many people will be the most interested int ersted is a comparison of religious life between the cities and the smaller towns and rural communities the returns indicate that interest in religion differs greatly in various parts of the country in the south the people are extremely orthodox in their views very generally accepting such doctrines as immortality and the dicinit divinity y of christ and the samo sama thing Z holds true in the middle western states but in the larger cities like new york and chicago the returns show a great indifference toward religion reli 1 ion of the nine n ne per cent who report that they do not believe in in god practically practice tica ily a all I 1 of them reside in the cities there another good argument arg here in favor of living in the rural districts or in the smaller towns it better to live in a community that is populated with christian men and women than in one wherein the average citizen care anything about the future I 1 |
