fire chief berry the members of his department the city officials and citizens generally are entitled to credit and praise for the manner they received welcomed and entertained the hun leeds of visitors who were temporary guests ot of our municipality the visitors who participated in the three day event returned to their homes with nothing but bat words ot of commendation for the park city fire laddies addies and praise for or park city and its people for or the good time afford afforded them their tai slogan being park city is all al right and right they are it was wag generally concealed and ex presse presa pressed Fd d by thie the firemen themselves that never in the of the state association was a more satisfactory convention heidl or as hearty a wel come or more imore pleasing entertainment given the members thereof all being anxious to accept the hearty invitation to come again dusie Business s sessions were held at the elks hall hal 1 alpa and d were presided over by president Hani hannifin of eureka chief W 3 berry being designated as the official host mayor R W macdonald made the address of welcome to the assembled delegates chich was responded ded to by tb the a pie aiding officer in the afternoon governor george II if dern dera made a pleasing address which was vociferously received musical numbers were also given I 1 and vocal solos rendered by miss thelma berry and miss jennie urle at tile the close of the session the delegates were taken through the daly judge and silver king coalition mines the trip being much enjoyed at tuesdays session time lime resulting wednesday was the big day and hundreds ol of filemena with their ladles ladies came from all parts ot of the state to participate in and enjoy emboy tile the parada and sports arranged for tile the occasion all park city business houses were closed and a general holiday tor for everybody resul tedi the morning feature wad the big parade the formation of which was L P mcgarry marshal of the day followed by a detachment of the american legion boys band of park city city officials in automobile old veteran firemen with their red shirts and helmets bingham Bingha til contingent of fire men midvale ladies auxiliary with banner midvale firemen salt lake county w with ith fire truck and band spanish fork firemen saudy sandy fired fire men springville Spring ville band and firemen coele contingent executing manu ei evers ers as tho they in marched arched park city department part ment riding on the two fire trucks chief berry at the wheel of 1 one and charles wright guiding the other it was mas a good parade salt sale lake county contingent was decided as the best appearing organization and was awarded the loving cup presented by the park city department in the afternoon a large crowd gathered at the ball grounds to witness the tournaments features all of which were clever and intern interesting ting keen interest being taken in all the contests the among those most noticeable and attractive were driscoll and buck the tha blyth fargo company park city candy kitchen and mrs C V hodgson the latter in addition to a neat display of red and white had a profusion ot of beautiful flo flowers iv e rs from the garden of miss lyle nelson which abich gave a very pleasing effect provo department sent its fire truck track up to park city to take its place in the parade but coming up provo canyon it slipped oft off the highway disfiguring the machine to su such ell an all extent that it was returned home tor for repairs instead of showing off in the parade the festivities came to a close wednesday with a grand carnival ball bail which proved the big dancing event ot of the year the big bg elks hall was simply packed with as jolly a throng as ever got together to dance there was nas but little room tor for dancing but plenty ot of space tor for tun fun and frolic which prevailed amid confetti and dust until the wee small hours ot of morning the springville Spring ville band entertained m ith selections on main alain street and bat at the ball grounds while in our city A good band all the cates cafes did a ai land office bus business igess duuring diu ring the convent convention ioni the new oak cafe beins beina filled up all the time and filling up the many patrons Is a satisfying manner 1 it was a successful convention a jolly good crowd ot of mighty fine people with no accident or disturbances of any character |
