dated with mrs spiro spent the greater part of the week at park city inspecting tha the progress ot of the spiro tunnel driven by the condoll drain and develop the western ru part of 0 the district says the salt salt lake tribune this was the first opportunity I 1 have had since my return from the east ta 9 visit the property said I 1 mr spiro yesterday 4 A vast amount ot of work has been done since I 1 kl I 1 was there several months ago the t tunnel Is in more than two and one 1 half mites int les it Is surprising to me t to soe see how closely the disclosures have corresponded with the deductions drawn by our engineers from their observations ot of the tha surface and the geology of adjoining properties the sequence of the beddings has been almost precisely as expected their thickness is ampro the same earns as in older workings farther east easi and the various various dikes dike s and its eures eurea haca come in just about where they were wera projected on our preliminary maps pip div question quention paramount it has always been a debatable question whether thle the formations in and west of hhaynes Th Ti aynes laynos canyon had been lifted by y the early upheavals in this district some authorities coin contended that tile the formations bouti continued u e d on a uniform dip in that event the ore bearing lime ime ot of ahe park city formation would have passed under our tunnel our belief was that that the limestone would be intersected by the tunnel where we expected the limestone the tunnel entered the formation below the lime limestone tane the weber quartzite quartz tte showing that the ore horizon had raised above the tunnel level this gives us practically the same working conditions we had in the old shaft there the beddings were cut by the shaft at the 1500 and 1550 foot levels an and d dipped to the west the shaft went down into the quartzite and at the 1700 foot level we drifted west ini in quartzite connecting with the elme stone by three raises the ore mined above was dropped through these raises and trammel tram tramm med Ld to the shaft oil oil the 1700 level high grade in I 1 I 1 where the fissures have been cut in the quartzite by tap tunnel the Is much stronger than was found on the 1700 level ot of the old workings my examination of the different veins in the tunnel shows practically all of them to carry mineral including high grade ga lena la in several places i the latest important ant incurance occur urance ance in the tunnel is the penetration of the prominent dike which accompanies the major fissures of this zone tile the porphyry of which this dike Is composed is also we well 11 mineralized in cutting it a considerable amount of water was encountered alil which ch is Is finding an outlet through the ahr three by tour four foot ditch for more than a thousand feet north of the dike the quartzite penetrated by the Is intensely laton inton sely mineralized minera lied the seams and crevices between the fissures seem to be splattered with galena or other minerals two tiro raises projected arrangements are being perfected at the mine to start two raises A three compartment raise balse will ill be put up on a sequence of fissures just north of 0 the large dike to the overlying limestone another raise will be made in the body ot of iron ore in ter larded with gray copper silver and gold open opened d last month tor for a distance of 0 forty feet at the side ot of the tunnel meanwhile operations in ill the breast will continue work on the tunnel level south bouth of 0 the dike Is regarded as of great interest and im r pance pt tince nce lor for the reason that no one until our tunnel was driven could handle the water and get down to the park city formation tor matlon in this section mining milling in the hhaynes Th aynes formation down throe three or tour four hundred teet feet from the surface has resulted in the production ot of a great deal ot of valuable ore from the crescent and other properties the hhaynes Th aynes formation however has never carried ore bodies 1 comparable in size or value to those discovered in the park city formation north of 0 tho the dike it Is obvious that to de deposit posit so much ore at the ibo sir s ir jr ak VAA V ta AA 8 5 fa face ce the mineral mineralizing izing agen agencies cales must have been very active below where thea the park city formation offered op for ore deposit in no way interior inferior to those korthof nor north ot the intrusive dike operating conditions are improve ing dally daily in the district and I 1 an rapid progress with develop ment from this time on with results which will be pleasing Jo to all interest ed d in in the company NEW QUINCY with its preliminary work nearly finished iab new quincy mining alining company with holdings in the park city district will soon be ready to crowd an active campaign ot of develop ment former governor A L thomas president of the
