Show fra ftc A day at the moody bible institute A trip to chicago would no doubt ie be considered incomplete by many people interested in active christian work without visiting the moody bloody bible institute this institution founded by the worldwide world wide evangelist D L moody bloody in 1886 is located about eight blocks north of 0 the center of 0 the city near the corner of chicago avenue and north la salle street the main building faces on institute place named in honor of 0 the school tho the visitor finds a cordial we welcome at the institute and as furnished a guide who directs him about the buildings and explains the different departments and the daily life of the student body upon entering the main building the visitor Is impressed with the stained glass window at the head of the first landing illustrating the striding across the plowed field sowing broadcast the seed this is intended to be an object lesson to tc the students of what is expected of them during the time of their train inc nd throughout their lives C cn n the main floor the visitor is the library the missionary museum the lecture hall ball and the ac accounting and printing departments ments on the west wall of the corridor he finds the names ot of over students who hae gone to for eign mission fields a roll of honor passing down stairs ho be next visits the power and heating beating plant and i the steam laundry where all the laundry of 0 the students Is done at half price through an underground tunnel across institute place the visitor reaches the mens building with its gymnasium and dormi dormitories torim then comes the building with its large dining hall and kitchen th the e massey chapel reception room and dormitories for women visitors are impressed with the warm homelike atmosphere of 0 the institute the students with the faculty constitute ono one big family over are seated in the dining hall at each meal the women students occupy one side the men occupy the other and the faculty are seated in the center in the early morning before breakfast each student observes the quiet hour in personal bible reading and prayer after breakfast braak tast while still gathered at the tables a heart to heart talk or a bible exposition is given by some member of the faculty or some visiting pastor evangelist or missionary at 9 on tuesday morning of each week tho first general class convenes and the entire forenoon of each day Is devoted to lectures and class room work some lectures are j rivo alvon nin la the tha afternoon but a good purt of 0 the time each afternoon and evening Is devoted to study and practical christian work according to assignments sign ments made following the evening meal fellowship meetings are held in the different buildings i proper consideration is also given to wholesome recreation monday is always taken as a rest day the gymnasium in the winter and the tennis courts in the summer with an occasional excursion on lake all michigan c higan or a visit to some home park afford proper exercise tor for those who feel the need of 0 it at the beginning of each term a reception is given tor for new students in these and other ways the students at the moody bloody bible institute find themselves continually in a wholesome christian atmosphere which Is conducive to physical intellectual and spiritual development I 1 As the visitor watches the or more students ot of the day daiy classes and the or more of the evening classes and then thinks of over men and women taking the correspondence pon dence courses with resi residences donces in all parts of the world he begins to realize that dwight L moody bloody the j founder of the institute was a man inan I 1 of faith vision and purpose and that those who follow in his steps a are re following in the right direction the visitor leaves the institute with fresh i courage tor for his own life and the con eviction that life is really worth while if IE spent in the right way |
