Show discovery of modern bonanzas in the park city district with but 0 one n e or two exceptions the wonderfully rich mines of the park city district utah were unproductive until developed developed to a considerable depth the park city district is justly celebrated for its extensive deposits of 0 high grade silver lead ores and its mines a number of 0 which are as yet but practically in their infancy have produced something over in gross value while they have paid out in dividends in the file near neighborhood of the greater portion of this magnificent amount however came from depth below mere surface workings and although shafts have been sunk to lev in depth the ore measures have been in no wise exhausted even when the weber bober quartzite the lowest ore bear ing stratum in ill the formation was As a matter ot of fact act it is in the contact between the weber quartzite ftp and tile the overlying over lying park city limestone formation and in the bedded planes between these two that ore zones are disclosed in the performance for mance of exploratory work that are often a revelation to those who are acquainted with the mining history and geology of this famous old camp for nearly a halt balf century park city has been ean the wonder of the mining world years ago it was gereral ger eral ly believed that the resources of the camp had been practically exhausted and especially so when the old on tabio tan 0 and daly had produced their millions milli ors while many were of the opinion that the boundary lines of these pro properties covered practically all of the ore deposits that were worth looking tor for and digging for in the district in which they were located discoveries during recent years however have proven the fallacy of 0 tills hia belief for or each year the lines have been extended until territory lias has been environed which now inels approximately to 2000 feet I 1 bludes developed de dei eloped and paying mines I 1 and sections have been added to the I 1 mineral zone which but a few bears ago were looked upon as being nothing more than barren ground Dis discovery coNery of 0 modern modem the discovery of the quincy opened the ea ees es of 0 many to the still greater possibilities of this camp and the wonder wonderful fu I 1 disclosures in the silver king coalition at about the same time not to forget to mention the silver king consolidated and the he daly judge both of which a are re of moro more recent development sti stimulated mulat mining activities throughout gho ut that section and caused new enterprises to take form forms a number of which are now emp employed loved in the development of virgin ground in localities where they are practically surrounded by producers whose successes have emphatically subscribed to the gospel of deep sinking I 1 included 1 I eded in this number is the thi thice ce kings silver mining company chose whoso holdings embracing an area of acres of patented ground are surrounded on three sides by t the extensive domain of the silver king king coalition and it is the intention ot of the ti is three kings to sink to the lime stone itono quartzite contact with the full expectation of uncovering at a geological depth of from to feet tile the same ore zones in this contact that have hav made the coalition the judge and the consolidated famous throughout tile the mining centers 0 of tile the vest N est and the three kings because of its lower horizon and because of the erosion ot of the planes ot of practically barren ground at higher altitudes will not be compelled to sink so deeply as was tho the case with its near and successful neighbors in order to uncover the silver lead deposits believed to extend through from adjoining properties as it would re qulie more than imaginary Ima ginery lines to check the ore depositions when once dame nature began to construct her treasure vaults abild furthermore the impression prevails that the les in adjoining properties have been proven to i within in a few hundred feet if it not r right ig hi to the boundary lines ot of tile the three kings holdings A careful study ot of the hillside discloses three distinct strata the upper bed is the limestone which extends down donn tho the hill a few hundred feet teet the next stratum being the woodside wo asido dc shale which Is ot of no economic importance and tho the third stratum which commences at the point at which the three kings shaft house Is located is the park city formation it will be seen that these formations all dip to the northwest about twenty degrees tile the property of the thre kings is located about three quarters ot of a mile from the park city postoffice post ottice office and is but a ten or fifteen minute walk from the main street of this ac tive live and progressive mining dining district cipp dtp it la Is but a short wagon haul from the main maia working shaft of tile the company to two lines of 0 steam railroad one of which is connected with the main lines of the union pacific w while hile the other makes direct connection with its parent system the D R G at salt lake city the shaft Is connected to the railroad by a road ot of easy grades so that the transportation problem offers no whatever and it is figured that freighting costs will be very low once shipping ore is encountered in the mine workings the companas Comp anys property the ninety seven acres included in the companas comp anys holdings consist ot of a preemption pre emption made by col john nelson many years ago and to which government title has since been vested in the locator this tract adjoins the northwest portion of park city t townsite 0 v a 1 te ot of its western boundary and a adjoins d J 1 I s three of the patented claims of the minola group on the north belonging to the company and the beware claim on the west col nel nek son was ono one of the veteran miners and prospectors ot of the park city district ile he was a friend and contemporary of such mining men as R C chambers for years manager and president of the great ontario and richard mcintosh owner of the park city sampling works in the early days of the camp it is stated that colonel nelson was ono one ot of the best posted mining men in the camp and that during his lifetime life iffe time was often heard to remark that he believed that tills this ground would eventually develop into one of the biggest and best mines in the district and he left the ground to his widow with the expressed wish that she would keep it until she was able to realize handsomely from it on the basis of a producing mine the balance of the ground fifty six and one halt half acres consists ot of the lookout colorado beware and white horse patented mining claims the lookout claim Is bounded on the south by the samuel claim of 0 the silver king coalition mines lines company the colorado claim is bounded on the east cast by the same samuel claim and on the south by tile the kentucky no 6 and kentucky no 6 claims of the silver king coalition the beware claim is bounded on abe south by the kentucky nos 4 and 5 white horse claim is contiguous to claims mt blanc calhoun and kentucky no 4 of 0 the coalition most of the claims mentioned belonging to the silver king coalition mines corm pany and forming part ot of the uintah treasure hill mining con com banys property which it la is state was purchased by the coalition seven or eight years ago for and from which property much first class ore has been shipped during the intervening years these e four claims were originally owned by John parry another park city prospector who had confidence in the ultimate outcome of the mineral industry located in hollow for so that locality was designated and ile he held these claims for many years up to the time of his death refusing repeated offers of from to the estate going to his widow who held on to the claims up to a year or two ago when for a money and stock consideration she turned the ground into the holdings of the three kings silver mining company mrs nelson also parted with her ground on the same basis taking money and stock in payment tor for her property the two transactions giving the company clear title to the consolidated properties the cash payments having already been made and stock entered on the books according to tho the agreement the general formation in hollow the general formation consists of park city lime which has a dip of 17 to 20 de degrees rees N 50 degrees W this lime bed is from 8 0 0 to 8 5 0 feet thick and rests on weber quartzite large ore bodies being generally found on the tha contact and from 50 to 7 5 feet above in the park city lime the bonanza ore deposits of that portion of the district have been found to have a gray sili clous lime for a hanging wall and a of sandstone the tha strata ot of 11 lime in e that Is replaced b by y or ore 0 varies in width from two to fifteen or twenty feet buc the general is from two to six feet although zones of enrichment of from thirty to forty feet are of fre frequent ue t 0 occurrence curre e the persistency and permanency of the ore bodies of the district have been well established by deep and extensive development and production and this tact fact is amply attested in a report made by edward R where he be calls attention to the main ore shoot in the silver king coalition which had been followed for a cl distance istance of feet and which had produced on an average of tons per ier running foot with an average value of per ton Int rushe quart ledge the surface area arcil of the three kings company is pretty well covered by a thick growth ot of underbrush and this conce ate and hides to a great extent a more than promising mineral formation that is appreciated and recognized only by tho the very few who have given that tha section the ciri cin ul lul examination it deserves with a nor northerly slid and southerly strike a trong strong quartz three bundled and fifty teet feet north oat nest ot of the shaft there is an east west fissure that outcrops very strongly and nd from which assays essays have been obtained showing small values in to five feet jn in width and has a dip to the north the ledge and this fissure should intersect in the beware claim and at the intersection there Is a good rea son on to believe that a large body of pay ore will exist to prove which theory a drift will undoubtedly be sent ont out from the lower workings of the main working shaft in a report on the three kings property L J hohl tho the well known uv con salting engineer of san francisco says the existence of the ore bodies as far north as the three kings has ot 0 teen been demonstrated by actual lo 10 cation as yet but knowing ule perz pe sis report to the directors ot of the three kings company paul valtine Valt lne geologist states personally I 1 can only state that in my opinion you hold today the most valuable undeveloped ground in the district excepting only in part the territory owned already by your powerful producing neighbors production of the lie district in a report by edward R and george D blood prepared for or presentation at the annual meeting 0 of the tha american institute ot of mining engineers which convened in salt lake city in august 1914 the production of 0 the mines of park city up to that date was given as property the property ot of the three kings silver mining company la is equipped with a commodious shaft house and blacksmith shop in the shaft house there Is installed an ottumwa iron works hoist geared to a westinghouse 35 horsepower motor having a lifting capacity ol of pounds at a speed of feet per minute in addition there Is a chicago tool company air compressor belt connected to a 30 horsepower westinghouse motor in the mine a chicago pneumatic tool company air hoist has been installed which has a lifting capacity 0 of f pounds ata at a speed of ninety feet per minute at the pump house feet from the shaft house a fairbanks morse electric pump is in operation this pump juices forces water from the spring to the shaft through a 2 inch pipe line tho the m property ro perty Is also fully equipped with lir air drills mine cars mine and hoist buckets uck ets electrically driven saw and the he necessary tools tor for extensive rali ting development and operation soon after taking gover over this promising property the company management began the installation ot of tho the equipment above described and starting a two compartment working shaft in the park cly lime beds this shaft has boon been sunk to a depth considerably sider ably over feet and Is well timbered at a point above the bottom of shaft a drift was run in a direction which which procured greater depth geologically and at the same time brought the development closer to known producing territory this drift also explored the beddings in such a manner that any northeast southwest fissures which might exist would be discovered the expectations of the company in this respect were fully realized in view of the fact that two well defined fissures were intersected in this interesting development crosscuts Cross cuts were made on the no 1 fissure which was very highly mineralized to establish its permanency and continuity the consisted of galena in blako form together with showings of r silver ilver varyl varying g 1 in quantity from tour four to nine ounces in this crosscut the management also decided that it would be advisable to penetrate the allme quartzite contact in this fissure and has been prosecuting work la in a at a point in the crosscut where the was strongest very gratifying assays essays have been obtained from the fill of 0 this floure throughout its entire depth while the fissure has hag been gradually widening so that at the present writing the entire width of the is in fissure filling quantities of manganese and tale talc exist throughout the gangue matter odthe fissure as disclosed by this vinze it is anticipated that the weber quartzite will be reached in a comparatively ively short time or at a total depth geologically ot of to feet beet and present favorable conditions would lead to the opinion and belief that an exists in the near vicinity of the work now being carried on so intelligently and systematically organization the three kings silver mining company was organized along lines of strength and permanency at the outset it was known that deep sinking would be required in order to reach the contact between quartzite and tho the limes and it was fully realized that this would require con considerable sider capital and the exercise of good judgment mining experience and patience with a realization of the magnitude aa of the enterprise
