Show riki r iki J communications t i t th t H t wily WHY WERE U biti kiti THEY NOT INOT editor park record during circus week a man named drake and a woman supposed to be his wife took lodgings at a certain rooming house at the expiration of a week they left taking mith ith them several articles of value belonging to the landlady the police were notified and the couple were stopped in salt lake and brought back to park city when bhea their trunks were examined some of tile the stolen articles worn were found in their possession but they were enough to make away with the rest they said that the articles found on them must have been taken along by mistake this was sufficient reason tor for the city justice to allow them to go along peacefully on oil their way with out any further ance from the law it reminds one ot of a certain irishman who was brought before a judge charged with stealing a chicken from a land owners property when asked by his honor how the dead chicken happened to be in his pocket he replied that it must have flown in and committed suicide during the examination ot of these people at the city hall our city marshal was has on very friendly terms with them passing jokes while the examination went on the woman who took the stuff passed insulting remarks to he landlady nothing was waa said to her there are a certain class of people who make it their business to go from one rooming house to another stealing whatever they can get and disposing of them in some other town I 1 think when stolen articles are found in the possession ot of those people they should be punished to the full extend of the law instead of 0 treating theta them as guests of honor the officials will arrest some poor unfortunate who happens to get on a drunk and fine him five or ten dollars people ot of their own ale who leave their money here but they allow miscreants to come in their town steal what they can bring them back on a charge entertain them and then allow them to go on there way S A W park city utah july 12 1916 |
