matter of an amending tending li 1 quor license came up recorder garvin stated that she had received al a communication from the liquor dealers association which she was instructed ted to read no action was taken regarding it until after the amendment to the ordinance had been favorably acted upon it was then taken up and discussed councilman thompson desired t ehlt it t the recorder write the association to the effect that council had not pass 1 ed ordinance without considerable thought and consideration that 1200 was wag paid in other towns tor for the privilege of running a saloon and it I 1 was the opinion that the park city dealers could pay this amount without auy any particular hardship that the amendment had not been in made ade to drive any one out of business but to legitimately increase the revenues of the city lie ile moved a reply along these lines be sent the association making the protest which was seconded by councilman kearns in speaking to the motion councilman westfield said that lie he had bad advocated the increase of licenses that he was in favor of high license but bu be voted against the amendment this time because men had been laid oft off at the mines and the town was rather quitt quiet that lie thought it best to let matters go along as they were j for a month or tv 0 and see it if the town did not pick up when the liquor dealers would feel as it i they could better stand the raise councilman kearns when called upon said that it if for no other reason reavil he would be in favor of the increase of liese lie lic euse se beco would be protected by high alicei e the letter park city utah sept 12 1910 to the honorable maor and city council of 0 park city gente Gen the park city liquor dealers association han ha I 1 ing ng seen in the park record that bour our honorable body intended to raise the licenses of the retail liquor dealers of park city desire to present the follo following facts before iu ou take such action in the first place we do not think such action is justified by the condition existing in this city at the present time as the majority of the saloons are hardly able to pay the license enforced at the present time arid and by raising the license it would be a great hardship to quite a number who have invested their money in this business unless time were given them to sell out their stock as it would be impossible for them to get anything like the amount in ves ed out of the iniss another feature that we would like to bring before you yon is the tact fact that by a careful canvas of our members we have found that it will be the means of 0 closing out eight saloons which would be a very bad showing in our city to have so many empty buildings on main street and also a very poor advertisement for park city also in a canvas ot of the property owners on main street ther are arc very much opposed to any raise in the license at the present time we ve also call your attention to the fact that park city is one of the best regulated and quietest mining city in the state ind and the saloon keepers are all good respectful sp ectal ful citizens it if in the future park city would get baelli hack to its old standard aud havel bavei the good old times again your saloon keepers would be perfectly willing to stand a raise hoping your honorable body will give this your careful consideration we are yours truly liquor dealers association W H miller iller secy the amended ordinances the amendment to section C 5 of 0 the revised oraid ordinances A ces of park city was read tor
