T D johnson called the convention to order john seaman was named temporary chairman and ana R T harris temporary secretary after a short address by chairman seaman on oil graft and denoun denouncing cin 9 the present administration the committees were appointed and an adjournment journ ment taken until 2 mr alk Seam seaman in his speech pointed out the duties of citizens to pro protect hect and obey the laws of the country ile he directed his remarks along anti graft lines the county has had men in office who have been a law unto themselves men who have taken fund from the public treasury which they were not entitled to the petitions of tile the people for a grand jury at at various times were constantly denied mr seaman then took up the padded pay rolls rolar and bounty fraud cases and sald said that when the exposures were made the press defended the men and could not be trusted to do the square thing by the public honesty among public officials and not pilfering of public treasury is what the county wants want mr seaman s said aid tile the district attorney county at attorney tornby county com missioners ners and attorney general had failed to do their duty in ill state platform adopted by the democrats in convention assembled at salt lake uty rity on october fth 1906 and the nominees ot of that convention we also endorse lorse all national legislation regarding railroad appliances passed for the protection of railroad employed emp loyes and demand its vigorous enforcement wo vc denounce the iisha issuance nee acceptance and viso use of railroad passes by public officials as vicious and a species eie i of bribery anti and pledge our legislative candidates to use all their endea endeavors for the enactment of legislation making it a crime for any public official to hold or use tree free transportation on oil any railroad within the state and also on tile tha part of the railroad company to issue or give the same name while favoring railroads in ogden canyon wo we arc unalterably opposed to the occupation of any portion of the ogden canyon road as now con by r ralla ails or railroad tracks belonging to any common cancer of passengers or freight and itulid insist upon the maintenance of this magnificent roadway free from every obstruction tor for the benefit bonollo of nil all the people we denounce the present conditions of the roads of weber county mid and pledge our candidates to improve and better the same throughout the coull county as the finances of the county will permit we pledge our candidates for co county un commissioners to make only such alteration in the road or school districts dla tracts within the county as meet with the approval of the parties interested we also pledge our candidates candidate for the legislature to maintain the present laws governing the relation of employer and employed emp loye we also pledge all our candidates to an economical administration of county affairs aff alra and that they will keep within the law we favor a thorough investigation of the graft that has already been exposed DO sed to the public as being carried on by the court giouse ring together with the prosecution of the guilty individual and the recovery or of such moneys as may have been ant and misapplied we pledge our candidate for county attorney to assist rather than retard the prosecution of any officer charged by any citizen with misappropriation of public funds of the county we bold that it is a political truth that every officer responsible for the disbursement of money Is required by 7 to give a bond for the faithful execution of his trust and we believe that there have been instances in tha past where the conditions of such boyad bonds haye have been violated and no attempt has been made to recouped to the county the funds it has lost thereby and insist that the officers elected at this election shall enforce any such liability as now or may hereafter exist we
