Show WL IT m WILL PLACE NO obstruction AGAINST SUBPOENA SERVERS forty officers and employed Emp loyes of big company to be called into court york aug 2 word was received here from chicago that 40 or more subpoenas for officers and em aloyes of the standard oil company had been forwarded from the city in a registered package last monday p the adylee from chicago does not give th e names of all those choso whoso presence Is considered desirable by the officers in chicago who are conducting the rebating investigations for the government united states marshal henkel to whom the subpoenas naturally would come said yesterday that they had not come into his fiands as yet several of the officials of the standard oil company who were in their offices yesterday w bouldi not say whether they had received subpoenas issued by the united states court in illinois but he did not show surprise when they learned that they had been issued inquirers were referred to M F el llott general counsel for the company mr elleott so far as ho knew no attempt had been made to serve any of the officials who were in tons yesterday mr elleott would not say what attitude the officials of the company would take in case the subpoena berv 1 ers put in an appearance lato yesterday we were not positive that bridge was before us he said but we will want until we reach it before attempting to cross it when asked whether he would consent to take the package containing the subpoenas and see that each of the documents reached the person tor whom it was intended or whether he would let the process servers themselves hunt out the officials mr el llott said that while he would like to seo the subpoenas first before saying what ho would do ho could safely say that the standard oil companas comp anys officers would not go to any great lengths to dissuade the government officials we shall not make any attempt to obstruct them in any way ho said it they have any legal papers to serve |
