Show earthquakes RECORDED washington dec 24 A special bulletin issued by the weather bureau today say the seismographs of the weather bureau recorded two earthquakes 0 magnitude the first shortly after noon of the and the second about 23 hours later namely afternoon of doc from the appearance pe arance of the records we are led to conclude that the earthquakes originated at widely separated but this can not be definitely told the first tremors were recorded ac p m of the and the maximum motion of very short duration occurred at p m the record registered about 3 oc look the strongest action was recorded in a north auth direction and amounted at 17 millimeter displacement of the ground the displacement in the eart west direction was only 3 millimeters the second disturbance was recorded just after 12 dec and the motion in both north adouth and eart west was greater in both components and lasted longer than in the first earthquake the first preliminary tremor began beg an at p m the strong motion bo ginning at 1219 12 19 and lasted from 3 to 4 minutes the maximum displacement in the east west direction was 17 millimeters and 19 millimeters for the north south component the end of the record occurred at P m As far aa can be hadged hid ged from the the second disturbance wa not at such a great distance as the first but both disturbances must have been several thousand miles from washington |
