Show s FROM OUR SPECIAL correspondent SALT LAKE department OF THE STANDARD EXAMINER compromise FRANCHISE AGREED ON joint committee will call meeting this week to endeavor to pass it As a result of the conference between city attorney dey and attorney legrand young for the utah light a compromise franchise has been agreed upon last saturday night this was submitted to the municipal lawa and special water committees of the city council and was considered by that body no definite action was taken in the matter and it Is probable that some time this week maybe tuesday or wednesday the chairman of the joint committees will call a meeting to consider finally a compromise ordinance the one submitted saturday night gives the company an eight years ox tension of old franchises for this the utah light and railway company gives a one third reduction in its lighting rates which means a saving of on lights to the citizens ot the resident district of tho city and according to manager campbell a ilka saving to the merchants oi the business district the total savings Is placed at by the company the company Is also to allow the city the free lighting which it now receives and in addition Is to furnish light tor the new public library the isolation hos altal and the crematory the city will receive power rights and land in cottons canyon and everything necessary in the opinion of the city engineer for a conduit finally the company agrees to give a four cent fare by selling family books of fifty tickets for 2 the outline of tho compromise franchise agreed upon follows first tho city shall satisfy confirm all assignments of franchises 0 the utah light and railway company second the city shall grant an extension 0 all franchises twenty two la number for fifty years from january third the company shall be given until 1907 instead of 1906 to begin putting in annually four blocks ot underground der ground wire fourth tho city agrees to repeal all forfeiture clauses in existing franchises fifth the city agrees not to use the power granted in competition with the company for these rights and privileges the utah light power company agrees to make the following concessions first to reduce rates on electric lighting gas and commutation tickets of the street railway as agreed upon in the discussion before the during the week the city shall have the right to fix a minimum rate for street lighting and other municipal purposes and shall receive free lighting as stated above second the company agrees to convey water power and land rights along big cottonwood creek to the city the company agrees to a provision tor meter inspection and to keep the utilities of the company up to the standard of efficiency fourth the company agrees to a reasonable penalty for violation of the provisions of the franchise in lieu of the forfeiture clauses in some of the old franchises the committee will recommend to the council in addition to these other provisions that the city be given forty horsepower horse power tor pumping sewerage in the west and south of the city in addition to the thirty livorse power which Is now receives for elevator purposes the company will be asked to provide arrangements tor transferring passengers from points east of seventh east to caldera pars cars the members of the committee are almost a unit in maintaining that the city must maintain ita power rights in parleys canon here it owns foot fall of power rights and the bond address calls for the of a 10 lo power plant here to pump sewerage DELTA upsilon college fraternity men enjoy banquet at university club some of the college men of the city and state who belong to the college fraternity delta enjoyed a banquet at the university club last saturday night and renewed tor the time being
