| Show EXPORTS OP manufactures exports of manufactures in the fiscal year which ends today will be the largest in tho history of our foreign commerce A statement just issued by the department of commerce and labor through its bureau of statistics show brat exports 0 manufactures tor iho eleven months ending ath may 1904 were and a this sum Is 17 malhon dollars in ex cess of the eleven months figures for the year 1900 when made their high water mark in ex ione it seems perfectly safe to estimate sti mate that the total for the full year will be tho largest in the history of xi r foreign commerce comparing the of manufactures fac tures for the eleven months for which figures are now available with those of the corresponding months ot earlier years it may be said that the total exports of manufactures in tho eleven months ending with may 1901 are practically twice as great as those for the corresponding months of 1896 and a half lime great as in 1892 practically three times as great as in 1890 and more than three times as great as in 1888 in the eleven months ending with may the total et manufactures was in 1890 millions in 18 6 millions in 1900 the year of largest exportation ot banuls et prior to the one just ending and in 1904 this increase in the exportation of manufactures occurs in nearly all alases of manufactures comparing the export figures of SO articles or groups of articles for the eleven months ending with may 1904 with those of the corresponding months of 1900 the previous high record year in the exportation of manufactures fac tures 23 of the number show an increase while 7 fall slightly below the figures of 1900 those which show a reduction as compared with 1900 are iron and steel cotton manufactures tobacco manufactures cycles glass and glassware starch and marble and stone manufactures in iron and steel the total tor eleven months ending with may 1904 Is million dollars against millions in the corresponding months of 1900 of cotton manufactures the total for eleven months ending with may 1904 Is 20 millions against 22 millions tor the correspond lne months of 1900 cycles a decrease ol 01 about one and a halt million dollars class and glassware a reduction of less than thousand dollars starch a reduction 0 a little over 1 millton dollars and marble and baloue a drop of about dollars the great articles which show increases in the eleven months of 1904 compared with the corresponding months of 1900 are mineral oils re fined copper manufactures leather and agricultural implements chemicals manufactures of wood paper and manufactured thereof scientific instruments cars and carriages paraffin india rubber manufactures books maps etc distilled spirits musical instruments clocks and watches paints and colors blasg manufactures gunpowder and other explosives soap wool manufactures fac tures and jewelry |
