avenue Saloon mans license may be revoked last evening the members of the council sustained the veto of the mayor for the purchase of 1000 feet of fire hose the veto wag nt in last week but was deterred one week in order that the fire committee could consult with tho mayor the committee did not confer with the mayor but several members of the council investigated end they came to ane same conclusion as did the mayor that it is not a business proposition lor the council to bur hose without the price or quality of the hosa being stated the matter aroused considerable discussion last evening during which it developed that the chief had ordered alie hose without awaiting action on the mayora veto and the shipment i probably on its way considerable other business was transacted by the council the committee on laws recommended that the petition asking for the establishment of a speedway on grant avenue between twenty sixth street and thirty first be granted and that an appropriation of 50 be made to assist in making the roads in condition they also recommended that an ordinance i be drawn regulating the hours during which ft shall be used for speeding the report was adopted the committee on streets recommended that the petition of J S lewis asking for an extension of the curbing and guttering district on twenty fourth east from jefferson be referred back to the petitioner to get the signatures of the property owners in the proposed district the recommendation was adopted in relation to the petition of J S lewis improvements on the dugway the street committee that all the improvements suggested had made previous to the petition tiro exception of the fence and they recommended that this be deferred for awhile report adopted on motion of councilman craig the
