ath 1003 th following resolutions were adopted whereas it has come to our knowledge by reading the columns of the salt lake tribune of february ath that during the debate on house bill no 73 entitled A bill for the relief of collection agencies which sought to make the judgment debtor liable for tho costs of suit an amendment to alic exemption law representatives stone and Chi supporting the measure argued that as a man is allowed 30 per month exemption etc could very well afford to let the balance of his wages apply on the balance of his debts and costs if he were honest and if receiving per diem abc some thing left to pay the coats after deducting the 30 in support of his family etc and whereas we au organization comprising nearly five hundred residents of the state of who livo by salaries and arc well acquainted with the economic condition of tho wage workers in this state read the expressions pres of such statements with indignation dig nation therefore be it resolved that we the united brotherhood of railway employed Emp loyes of ogden division no 0 in regular session assembled denounce such statements as untrue the abhorrent and the authors a disgrace to american manhood unworthy of citizenship and totally unfitted to represent the suffrages suf frages of a free people that HO pledge to use our individual and collective efforts to defeat tho political aspirations of any candidate for public ortice who displays buch ignorance of the condi tion i under which the laboring live or who seek in any way to impola additional burdina by means of tion adverse to the interests of the wage working and wealth producing class resolved that we further pledge ourselves and ask all organizations with whom we are affiliated to withdraw patronage and support from any business man firm or corporation advocating and assisting in the imposition of legislation adverse to tho of the honest working class and whereas we arc informed that francis G luke general manager of fact mainly through their efforts that the bill was framed and while e do not advocate any policy or rule that shall be a measure for the re tion or evasion of the payment of any honest debt we believe this class of agencies is not well founded be it resolved that we refuse to deal and use our best efforts to keep all our friends and associates from dealing any merchants or firms who we know give their accounts to these agen cie for collection resolved that vc denounce the drake loaning institution and advise all brothers to have no business dealings with a grafting outfit of this kind
