Show GRAND entertainment PUPILS OF SACRED HEART ACADEMY CARRY OUT PROGRAM 1 one or the largest audiences ever gathered together in ogden witness the event last night at the sacred heart academy occurred the musical and entertainment given by the pupils of the academy long before alie hour of commencing the vast assembly hall was filled to overflowing there being nearly fifteen hundred tickets sold at the entertainment opened the first number being the chorus twinkling stars upon the lake by the junior class this number was very well rendered the greeting to father bushna lian delivered by miss maguire was one of commendable praise as was tho piano duo executed by blasses C acon nell and B mccarty among the other musical numbers rendered that by the sacred heart club composed of fifteen musicians with the following instruments mandolins guitars violins and liard was rendered in an ebli chent manner and was greeted by a pro longed applause by alie audience miss conroy sang come back to erin and was encored and sang beautiful erin miss conroy has a beautiful and pleasant voice the private vocal class composed of twelve of the vocalists of the school rendered kathleen and the last eose of summer in the most pleasing manner eliat went to show that great time and care had been used in the vocal training of the young ladies miss johnsons renditions of a violin and a piano solo were clever cly executed the violin quintette composed of misses E farmer P jahnson J tartar S rowel 1 and N frost gave tareo very pleasant solos which were heartily received alie final musical number was a vocal selection by the senior vocal class which was exceptionally good the part of the program was a five act historical crama entitled isabella or the true heroine the play was written by a sister of tho holy cross and alie scenes of the drama happen during the reign of queen isabella of spain miss jean mcmillan appeared in the title role and handled the part in an admirable manner miss edna cannon as dona henrietta a maid of hono portrayed the part in an efficient manner as did misa T carter miss A maguire and ms E harcombe as moorish sultanas Sul tanas and miss ruth av cry the spy misses A moran N and E hancs as indian maidens and miss D spencer as alie indian princess brought to spain by columbus all exceptionally tio nally good and called forth much applause the decorations of the stage were neat and tastily arranged moorish and turkish rugs and curtains were profusely arranged on one side of the stage was arranged a moorish arbor statuary ferns palms and various plants helped to add to and beautify the stage the gowns dresses and costumes of the young ladies in the play showed that time and untiring efforts had been in the making |
