stand on alio track on second street for a chief of police to ride on a pass and charge the railway fare to cut the smallest possible piece from a telephone pole and so on alie standard could probably show up a thousand different deeds or acts that under the law are called the crime of a misdemeanor such acts too that are daily performed in ogden by hundreds of people by some not knowing eliat they arc violating a law yet every one of them could bo arrested if a skunk moan enough could be found to swear out a complaint read over carefully the above acts each of which constitutes a crime and then point out the man or men who would around town to entrap some one guilty of any one of those minor offenses who would be small enough to file a complaint for the violation of two thirds of the of fenics above described and who would swear out a complaint if a person in the performance of his duty should unwittingly and unintentionally be guilty of violating one of the acts above described as a misdemeanor T and j suppose if in the discharge of your official business you should the ogden pest house and the per son who does the cooking should shake hands with you and that shaking of hands was a misdemeanor who would swear out the warrant for the arrest t yet that was the evidence upon which tho mayor was fined the shaking of hands with the cook Is it not about time that the enemies of the mayor should go away back and eit down I 1 if they have not the good sense to do that will not some person who lias some sympathy for the deluded mortals go to them and say in all kindness that the matter has gone far enough that it is time to stop Is it of any benefit to ogden city for the people to show to the world the asinine qualities of an alleged attorney and physician so far as the mayor ia concerned it makes no difference no amount of abuse can hurt him but does it do alio city any good napoleon once said pull me down and france goes down with me so too with ogden the mayor as the head of ogden city cannot be injured without injuring the city in utah everybody knows the mayor and no abuse will injure him at home but can you degrade the mayor in the eyes of the people far away from ogden without degrading or belittling ogden and her people we have completely shown by the above that if skunks mean can be found to make complaints alie district judges and supreme judges and every officer of the state and ogden city and weber county can be found guilty of a misdemeanor and a great deal more serious are committed before the eyes of all the various officers than have been charged against the mayor personally wo do not care but as an officer of the city we purpose to maintaining the dignity of that office to the beat of our ability and the time as come to call a halt and we call it |
