Show RURAL DELIVERY postmaster CHARLES MEIGHAN RECEIVES A LETTER IN REGARD TO THE MATTER A postoffice Post office department agent will be in ogden in the near future to investigate vesti gate the master examinations for carriers it is probable that in the very near future weber county will have a rural delivery service postmaster meighan and members of the weber county delegation to the last legislature are working on the matter an has received the following letter the postmaster ogden utah sir on february 1 1902 the order of the president classifying rural letter carriers will become effective all selections for the position of carrier after that date will be made in accordance with rules prescribed by the civil service commission there is on tile in the post office department part ment a petition praying for the establishment of service from your office number in order to facilitate the work of the special agent when he reaches your office it will be necessary to secure applicants for the position of carrier in advance of his arrival you will therefore advise as many of the petitioners petition ers as you can reach to suggest ane names of three or more persona eliom aliey deem capable and who aber willing to act as carrier you ill also receive the names of others who may apply for appointment the special agent will notify you in due time of the day he will arrive at your office so eliat you may notify ane applicants to be on hand to take the prescribed examination which WILL BE EXTREMELY SIMPLE AND PRACTICAL ONLY sufficient TO TEST THE applicants ABILITY TO KEAD AND applicants must reside directly on or within the territory to be supplied by the proposed route each applicant must bo prepared to furnish a suitable horse and cart or wagon for use of the service applications of persons under seventeen or over fifty five of age will not be received except in the case of honorably discharged soldiers and sailors of the civil war or spanish war who are physically able to perform service applications af badly crippled or deformed persons will not ie considered applications of women will be received but 0 woman will not be mended for appointment to the position of regular carrier unless in the judgment of the special agent who will conduct the examination local conditions and circumstances are such as to make alie recommendation desirable and for the best interest of the service yori will post thia letter in a conspicuous place in the public part of your after ten days submit to this office the names of those who desire to liike the examination directed envelope enclosed very respectfully A W MACHEN general superintendent |
