Show HAY TREATY SENATE CONTINUES TO GIVE IT consideration washington dec 15 on motion of mr lodge the senate went into executive session to further consider the hay treaty immediately after going into executive session today the senate resumed consideration of the hay fote treaty senator teller continuing his argument against the treaty lie contended for the right of any nation to abrogate a treaty at any time and said it would be perfectly competent tor the united states to arbitrarily cancel the agreement with great britain whenever this country might so desire after the proceedings had continued for some time and when it became apparent that many senators were not in the chamber the absence of a quorum was suggested and when the call brought in a sufficient number to allow business to proceed a mild filibuster was started to secure an adjournment journ ment until monday it is the opinion pt the friends of the treaty that its opponents are trying now to find means of postponing the final vote on the treaty until after the holidays at 2 there was a motion to adjourn and a yea and nay vote was demanded upon it the motion was voted down efforts were made to reach an agreement tor a vote on the hay treaty but they were unavailing at p m the senate adjourned st louis sio dec 15 ellenwood the home of thomas in the western suburbs was burned with its contents last night causing a loss of at least valuable paintings and furnishings were destroyed |
