Show THE REFORM SCHOOL charged by a salt lake lady with bing a hotbed hot bed of vie strong denials by the board of trustees and by others ernest heerboth Herr both a sunday school superintendent makes a statement on wednesday last mrs lilene ot salt at a comans womans meeting made many statements regarding the state industrial school at og dea characterizing it as a hotbed hot bed of alcea training school for the board of trustees of the school last night gave out the following ogden dec 23 as to the editor of the standard our attention has been directed to a certain statement made by one ellen B ferguson of salt lake city and which appears in the local columns of yesterdays issue of a salt lake paper in which she charges the state industrial school as being a hotbed hot bed of vice a training school tor criminals etc the undersigner undersigned under signed the board of trustees of that institution take this opportunity port unity of denying the truthfulness of the charges made by the lady and publicly call upon her to produce any competent evidence she may have that will in the least substantiate the charges she makes the board la prepared to hold a meeting at any time convenient to the lady and will at that time expect her to produce her evidence bending to show in the least that the industrial school during the incumbency of the present board and management Is a training school for criminals or a hotbed hot bed of vice and the board also expects that the lady will either produce her evidence or retract the statement attributed to her and which appears in the public press J H MACMILLAN A T C FLYGARE trustees state industrial school mr ernest heerboth Herr both who Is interested in the reform work from a religious standpoint writes as follows the salt lake herald this morning publishes an article by a mrs dr ferguson wherein she laments the awful condition of the state reform school the writer of this together with other people living in the vicinity of the school has had charge of the sunday school department for about two years and a halt and in his humble opinion mrs ferguson being a would be reformer should commence at jerusalem and reform her all sweeping allegations being boiled down they would probably refer to some case 8 or 9 years ago the present state board 1 composed of gentlemen high in the standing of the community of ogden and the present officers from the u peri n ten dent down are men who court an investigation and would accord mrs fergson Fer guon all the help and aid she would need in such a work the writer can produce letters from a half a dozen boys who have really reformed and are doing well with a xmas greeting to all E bupt supt of S school not a salaried officer |
