still a very large attendance at the fair as usual eight p m saw the halls balls very tery well filled there were scores of new faces quite a number of whom were from salt lake and there seemed to be more animation in voting on the different contests than at any time since the fair opened there was unusual excitement during ine the short period given to voting a smoking jacket to the handsomest roan man ot of the evening the contestants were mr thomas keogh and mr ludwig after a hard and well conducted contest during which time every nerve was strained to favor the individual choice time was called and the smoking jacket became the property of mr keogh next followed a contest tor for a ladys hat the hat was a beautiful work of the milliners art its plumes were the envy of every lady present and when it w wa placed tor for contest it was with happy hearts that miss nettle fitzgerald and miss jennie jenille monohan monahan allowed their names to go forward as candidates the casting of ballots was easy and but a few at a time but as the contest waxed warm the friends of either candidate pressed forward and for a time it looked as it votes came out of the walls and down from the ceiling and up out of the floor and at the crisis of the excitement time was called leaving the contest in favor of miss Mo monohan nolian who became the possessor of the lovely bat hat donated by mrs bowring wring and won by a vote of and miss nettle nettie fitzgerald was little less happy in the knowledge that as the final moment came she stood with votes to her credit there was a wonderfully handsome pair of ladles ladies shoes presented to the fair by a friend and these were drawn by no by mrs J mccormick McCorm lck the silver toilet set from table no I 1 was set forth to be drawn tor for and in this case the fortunate mortal was one P cleary a gentleman who Is engaged in the S P shops he lie won them on no 3 A very unique and beautifully hand painted plaque was drawn on no by mr J cobern mrs senator frank J cannon drew a beautifully embroidered centre piece and doyles the porcelain of such rare design that stood on table no 2 was next brought forth and arid was drawn by mr richard mccormick McCorm lck on no after the above articles were drawn the young lady canvassers continued their work amongst the crowd of patrons and in the different contests that stand for the diamond ring the mandolin and the bookcase book case ease voting went forward with a little more animation than on previous evenings the votes cast during the evening in the railroad mens contest for the diamond ring for fred king who now stands with votes in his favor fred fral Froll frolich ich ch ed rouse with J still ahead with in the ladles ladies contest for the book case the contest stands thua thus mrs D A smyth ahead with votes mrs T D ryan at mrs rs jennie nelson in the mandolin contest tor for the most popular little girl the vote stands grace stead gertrude gertrud a ludwie ludwig 3 12 francis wilson alta carlson for the benefit of all those inhere interested sted in the fair it Is here stated that in the mandolin contest for the little girls votes will be received until 10 0 clock in the evening of tuesday november 1898 at ane end of which time the polls mile in this contest will close the ballots will be counted and the mandolin delivered to tale winning candidate in the covest of the most popular lady to whom the mahogany bookcase book case ease will be awarded the polls wi will close at 10 on the evening of wednesday y nov 1898 after which time no DO nore inore votes in that contest will be received at that hour the votes will be lie counted and the name of odthe the winning candidate be publicly declared in the contest tor for the diamond ring to be voted to the most popular railroad man it Is here stated that voting will continue by open ballot as at present until 8 on thursday evening dec 1st ast 1898 at that hour the vote closes and all ballot boxes now placed tor for receipt ot of votes either in the city or at any point out of the city on any ot of the railroads must be returned to the hall in which the fair Is being held by the hour ot of 8 9 p in thursday evening december 1898 and from that time until 10 ot of the same evening the voting will be by secret ballot at the end ot of which time counting ot of ballots will begin by five disinterested te business men of ogden and the count being made the result will be publicly declared and the ring delivered to the winning candidate COMMITTEE OF arrangements arrangement s burlington
