| Show UTAH A BLESSED LAND there were terrific and most destructive blizzards along the north atlantic coast during the first ot the week and tar oft in old greece earthquakes drove fear into the hearts ot the populace from day to day we read in the dispatches of some wonderful disturbances ot nature in one part of the world it Is the overflow of a mighty river such as lately occurred in china it la an earthquake wrecking whole cities and burying the panic stricken people beneath great tidal waves as was the case in japan not long ago it is a tornado or cyclone such as swept over st louis a few years past and left death and ruin in its path it is the flow of lava the mighty outburst of subterranean fires such as occasionally issues from mt vesuvius it is a horrible plague like the death reaper that passed over india in 1896 and aided by a drought sent over human beings to premature death of all these great calamities that now and then have different parts of the world not one is known to the intermountain inter mountain country and especially Is this true of utah though at times we as a people seem to think our lot is hard and from the outside world come glowing reports of the advantages to be enjoyed in a distant clime and the temptation is great to grow restless yet when we listen attentively to the stories of misfortunes told in the dally dispatches of plagues earthquakes blizzards and cyclones that devastate other lands and even states of our own country there certainly comes the conviction that of all the citizens of this nation or inhabitants of the earth the people of utah should be among the most contented for they arc beyond doubt among the favored in the enjoyment of lives tre efrom great calamities of every kind and especially death dealing disturbances of nature |
