consider the people but want the taxpayers to study the question mr D S conklen will be here in a few days with authority to do business G W jones did not want postponement there has been considerable pres sure brought to bear upon the mayor K and the members of the city council by the friends of the municipal ownership of the water works to have them post aly pone the date of the election on the 1 bonds question so that the people might better acquaint themselves with the subject As a result at a special called meeting yesterday afternoon the council passed a resolution postponing the election until july at which time rl every taxpayer tax payer should be fully informed that he may vote intelligently on the question the members of the council present at the meeting were ash browning conroy hill jones M L taylor and greenwell jones G W and pierce were the absentees G W jones sent up a telephone message expressing bis opposition to the proposition and the question of whether or not his message should be incorporated in the minutes was the only exciting incident of the night mee tinz a the matter of the petition of the board of education for the rooms now occupied by the public library came up for its chare of attention and the committee on public buildings and grounds buffered a throw down abd fell with the board and when the atmosphere cleared the sanitary inspect 5 tor and street supervisor had been tl granted the rooms for their offices THE afternoon SESSION the city council was called together in special session at yesterday afternoon ter noon with beven members present t the following resolution waa introduced by richard hill of the second i whereas the city council has not been able to have access to the hooks of W the bear lake and irritation and water works company until last saturday june ab 1897 in order to ascertain what has been the cost of the present water system and whereas the manager of said water system has informed the mayor that mr conklin the owner of the majority ot the bonds and stocks of said corn any will be here in a few days with power to act in selling the said water system or in reducing the present water rates therefore be it resolved eliat the election which is called to be held on june ath 1897 for the purpose of voting f upon the bonding question be and the ie hereby poat coned until july i 1897 and be it further resolved that the water commission be aad it is hereby instructed ted to proceed with all due dili freace in getting all information possible from the water company and that the same be reported to the city council the resolution was adopted joani ni all present voting aye f upon motion the recorder was au prized to have printed distributed and dodgery dod gere with the resolution thereon 1 l the council then adjourned to meet at 8 in the evening THE the minutes of the several meetings ot the council were read and approved when the minutes of the last meeting be one ot of mr jones and the council he would vote it ash offered 0 o vote for the recording of mr jones vote but not for the recording 0 the whole message taylor then eald if mr jonea insisted he would often in the list of claims after an uninteresting colloquy the matter of the legality was referred to city attorney henderson who staled that he would rather su amita written opinion upon motion the claims were allowed and warrants ordered issued for the same license committee recommended the re biting of the license of albert he bad gone out of business adopted committee on publio buildings and grounds recommended that the petition of R H G minty for the use of lester park pavilion for the night of june be granted adopted the same committee recommended that the petition of sanitary inspector moyes for the use of room eight in cily ballbey not granted adopted A similar recommendation was made in regard to the request of thee treet supervisor taylor opposed the adoption of the report on the ground that the city ball was for city was nob built for the school board it is primarily for the city officers and so I 1 am opposed to it on motion report of same committee on the matter of the board of education recommending that they be granted the use ot two rooms now occupied by the public library when they are vacated was not adopted dr conroy then wanted to go os record as being in favor of the city halla being used oy the city officers in preference to granting them to the school board if the school board want to here and board a room why not give them the school rooms I 1 am unjali fiedle in favor ot the city officers occupying the rooms in preference to others mr jones explained the matter for the committee and stated that he was in bayor of the board of education being granted the use of those rooms it would save the people per year and be wanted that saving he think that the street department needed those room hill spoke in favor of the city officials there were large number of people hunting those officers every dy and they should bo made convenient dr conroy replied to mr jones to the effect that the school board should not pick out two of the the city halli the report was rejected and the board of education does not get thy rooms the reports on the petitions of sanitary inspector and estreet supervisor were then taken up on supervisor gwilliam than explained his position and gave his reasons for desiring the downstairs room jhb reports were defected ed on motion of G W jone the sanitary inspector and street supervisor were granted the use of aha rooms now occupied by the public library the special tax committee reported in the matter of petition for lax deed for geo drake recommending that it be granted pr anted adopted same committee wae within the proposed paving district no 3 and owning the number of feet of land opposite our respective etive names therein hereby object to and protest against the paving of twenty fourth beteet between washington and grant avenues for the reason that if said street is to be paved we think the coat thereof should be borne by the taxpayers of the city at large and not by the abutting property
