Show THE FIGHT IN KANSAS it may effect the republican party I 1 in weber county EDITOR editon THE STANDARD in your issue of the appears a short paragraph aph inviting the voters of the third congressional district of kansas to investigate the record oelion of lion T TJ J hudson while he lived in fit 0 ogden den hinting that thero there might bo be found something to his discredit now as mr ir hudson is at this time the populist candidate for congress in the third district of kansas against the present governor of the state humphry who is the Ile Ite publican canal candidate date for congress against hudson and as itis it is generally ener a ily conceded on that hudson wi will f I 1 be e elected and have many thousands of votes to spare it is bat but natural that THE STANDARD should sympathize with mr humphry who driven to des caration pa ration under his imp impending defeat I 1 am informed by Ite republican publican authority that Il humphry umphry will send a committee committe from efrom ban kan sas boutah molook up hudsons Hud sons record here having failed to find find any anything against against him during his twenty y fars ac active I 1 ve life it in I 1 wilson count county kansas ansas knowing know 1119 gifun humphrys hr 1 methods in former campaigns as I 1 19 do it will be but in keeping with the tile man to deliberately work up a garbled and deliberate chain of falsehoods against his opponent and attempt to use the them in when too late to bo be before election for the benefit ofine of THE STANDARD and governor humphry I 1 will here gevea give a brief and truthful statement of the particular matter out of which the attempt ia Is being made to cast some damaging reflections against ainest mr hudson giet let me say here that I 1 have known mr hudson personally for many years both in kansas and arid utah that we have opposed each other in contending political work but I 1 have always found him an honorable man and b he es is ever ready to have the I 1 truth ruth known of his every action now to the case while mr fr hudson lived in ogden he lie wai engaged at one time to assist in looking up the title to certain I 1 property r dorother fo for other rother parti parties es the chain of t title t I 1 a showed a doubtful transfer to remedy thia this it was thought best to get the quit claim deed of the original owner back of the doubtful transfer if he could be found at this point mr hudson went to kansas on other business while absent absen t his associates found the original owner who demanded WO for a quit claim clairn deed saying that the city of Olden ogden to whom he sold old should have pai paid him that much wore for the acres he sold to the city the predty proper tv in question was but a small part of t the a IM acres but the man refused to any any quit claim for less than and was willing to quit claim the whole for IMO so it was decided hest best to take the deed to the pay the and correct all alf the titles so go far as the parties effected wished for the correction to do this it was necessary V to take the deed to some u disinterested 21 party and it was taken in mr hudsons Hud sons name while ho he was in kansas without his ills knoAl knowledge edge or consent and without his having any interest in the deal in an any y way I a y this deed to hudson was put on rel record 1 d before lie returned and before he knew of its existence some holders of property property erty affected became alarmed and thong thought proE t an attempt was being made to interfere with their titles and of course looked to hudson in this light this was the situation on mr fr hud sons return from kansas and at this point he again took up the work on tl the a title not knowing before this that the party had been found for whom they were huntin hunting 9 w when lien he left As soon as he could learn tear the situation he be at once quit quitclaimed claimed to the tile various owners some of whom willingly paid their portion of the and others claiming to be unab unable leviero were not re refused fused but a all it got their titles corrected no one knowing the facts blamed mr hudson son in any way for at no time did he have or expect p e c t to have any interest in any feature of fh the deal other than to look up and report on the title these facts were known to meat me at the time they occurred and can be verified ver ifield by scores of people here mr hudson and his bis friends were perfectly willing to have the facts published to the world and now to THE tim sra and to utah republicans allow me to say this there ar are e ma many ny voters in utah who ar are e des desirous rous for the success of th the 0 populist cause in kansas an and d are watching closely every move affecting the campaign they being in close comman communication cation with their weir friends at all times many of these voters having no ticket of their own in utah will vote iho the Ite republican publican ticket unless utah republicans shall attempt to defeat their friends in kansas bv unfair means of this kind will cause this vote to go arinsb against the republicans here while it wa will not save their cause in fit kansas this matter is being watched closely let the whole truth and not falsehood under theolea the plea af pf serving party be the tile watchword A word to the wise in fit time E II 11 RIDGELY |
