Show An a Appeal of the doard board of education to the tai tax palina g loters of city the board of education having called a meeting on the of march to ask the tax paying voters of ogden to authorize the tho issuing til cf bonds to the amount of deem an explanation on of the reasons for making such request quest duo to said voters at the opening of the schools in september last the board found it necessary to rent rooms for school purpose purposes and since th that I 1 lt time they have rented additions additional buildings build inRa besides occupying two largo large rooms in the city hall there are at present in round numbers in rented buildings and anti in city buildings sixteen hundred sea seats 18 while the actual monthly enrollment is about two thousand pupils the city enumeration shows thirty three hundred children of school age the seating beatin capacity owned by the ci city t will accommodate only on one e th third 1 r aj of that number some of th the e buil buildings dingi now owned by the city and occupied by the schools are in poor por sanitary condition they were built in in earlier times and having baving served their purpose should be replaced by better ones the modern school building is constructed ted with strict regard to light heat beat and ventilation three thin things g essential to the physical and mental welfare of our children the rooms at the city hall are mufed by courtesy of the con council acil and aro are at any time tim e liable to be needed for 0 other ther pur purposes pa be a th the present necessities of our schools school I 1 their heir steady growth and the continued increase ol 01 our population warn the board that something must most be done and done quickly to provide tor for the children entitled to school privileges the board ask for power to issue bonds to the amount of A but will beell the bonds and expend the money some as aro are sol necessary of the money expended for buildings at least two thirds will be spent among our own citizens for labor etc thus keeping a largo earn sum in circulation among us no while the remaining one third will probably be sent en t from the territory lor for build building ng materials etc these bon bonds dewill will bear bears a low rato of interest and the entire annual ex 1 pense e rise for the whole would cold be ba only about 25 cents for each citizen of ogden the present expenditure for rents is nearly early n two fifths of the interest that would accrue on the entire of bonds the board regard the schools of vital importance to a young and growing city the class of citizens that ogden desires will be attracted as much by her schools as by any other one thing children should be mado made aa as comfortable for table in the school schoolroom room as at homo home and the happiest period of the twenty four hours should be that in which they are engaged in school work with pleasant and healthful surroundings in view of these considerations we a appeal peal to yon to vote for tho the issuance ot cheso bonds section 37 of the new now school chool s laws defines the qualifications of 0 f voters at this meeting as follows sr SECTION atio 37 every male person of the age of 21 years or over who has been a resident of the tha territory for six in nantha intas and af the school district lor for thirty daye days both immediately preceding prelay the day lay on which any meeting is held for the purpose of voting on the question of levying taxes or issuing bonds for any school district and who has paid a territorial or county school tax in any buch such district during the preceding year or who haa has been assessed tor for any territorial or county school tax in any euch such district for the year in which any each meeting is held hold shall be entitled to voto vote at any euch such meeting WM wt 11 II president RANSFORD SMITH W W L B ADAMS titos D DEE IV IV con E Y trustee trustees |
