work are requested td e to bo be present charitable association A meeting to of I 1 the association will be held in the county court room on tuesday october gb at 3 p in airs mrs emerson being absent the first vice president will preside and all matters president 0 ot business will be referred to her INFORMAL few friends gathered at sirs mrs robert on awen twenty ty third street last Wednes wednesday night and most of them being wednesday mus dar cal people the evening waa was spent very pleasantly among the number were mrs conlisk Conlis ks sir mr james conlisk Oon lisk sir mr beatty miss elliott and mr and mrs abbott FESTIVAL the church of the good shepherd will celebrate the harvest festival today rev samuel Una worth will preach an appropriate bermon and special music for the occasion has been prepared the church will be decorated I 1 with the fruits and vegetables produced in this country and all are I 1 cordially invited to attend IT SISTERS SOCIAL A very pleasant time was spent in I 1 castle hall tuesday evening by the pythian sisters and their guests cards dominoes dominges dom inoes checkers halma aims and numerous other games were enjoyed by a large arge r number the ladies served refreshments and the whole affa affair I 1 r was a social success one week from tuesday the pythian bisters sisters will give a ball in castle hall which they will endeavor to make a very fine affair REAL HARD WORE WORK the ladies of the presbyterian missionary society have pledged themselves to earn one dollar each to be given to the association they have till january in which to earn the required sum and some have already begun A meeting will then be held and each one will relate her experience in getting the dollar one dime will be charged for Rd admission mission but the entertainment afforded by the stones stories will be well worth it LADIES AID the ladles aid society of the congregational church met with mrs austin ross on frida fruity afternoon the weather being very yd disagreeable the usual number were not present although a most pleasant afternoon was spent it is urgently requested that all be present at the next meeting as business of importance that must be attended to will be disposed of at meeting to be held at A A Wen gers gere 2531 quincy avenue next friday at 2 30 p m AT TUB THE THEATRE I 1 several parties of from six to ten members were observed at keenes performances friday and saturday and all interest centered cente iod in the pl play ay theatre parties in ogden of more than t a six people ople are relegated to the dress c circle ire f or parquet odthe opera house on account of the small size of the boxes yet these are by no means deserted the theatre last week sparkled with new fall millinery as well as many pretty evening co costumes the opening g of the electric railroad rail roid very much facilitates theatre going late cars after the performance enable ladies living on the bench and outside of town to attend with the ai urance that they will not be forced into a long and tiresome walk home the engagement of fanny davenport at mondays opening performance promises to even outshine that of I 1 friday evening from a social ocial standpoint so chautauqua CLASS the chautauqua class started at mrs elliotts alliotts Elli otts last monday afternoon bids fair to bev be very a successful the books have arrived arrive I 1 and the subjects a for winter study are very interesting six books contain the fearons Fea sons work and are as follows leading facts in american history social institutions of the united states two old faiths 11 classic german course in english and initial studies in american letters tin chautauqua a 11 monthly ma magazine also contains contain much valuable reading g matter the officers were chosen on monday for the winter mrs elliott as president and mrs evana evans sec secretary y and treasurer the meetings will be held on mondays at the homes of the different students four meetings will be held at each residence the class comprises ro far mrs elliott mrs berry mrs E evans vane mrs robert ross mrs theo robison mrs ll 11 0 gilbert miss bliss smith miss kuhn and Miss elliott all those mentioned are in earnest and will no doubt do good work HARVEST HARVIST TEA the first meeting ot of the episcopal guild for the season was held aters L it rhodes 2020 monroe avenue on wednesday afternoon on account of the bad weather the attendance all nce was not as large aa as expected but those present were lolly fully repaid for going plans for fall work were dis die cussed and will be perfected at the next meeting after the business ladies were invited into mrs rhodes pleasant dining room where the table was spread for refreshments A centre I 1 piece of 01 fruit and vegetables became V at once the object of admiration the tomatoes and radishes looking especially pretty surrounded with green asparagus g bunches of yellow marigolds decorated the corners of the white cloth salads sandwiches cake and tea were gervea served and much enjoyed tor fSr it is well known that the hostess is famous for her fine salads I 1 it was cold rainy and cheerless outside JL but warmth and merriment I 1 were within the th 0 pretty rooms where a bright fire blazed in the grate and I 1 lighted i ave ed up the large squashes an and d other r vegetables ege tables which were arrao arranged 9 about the mantel and hearth reminding all of the bounteous harvest cf of the year THE WREATH mrs don maguire entertained the ladies ladie of this popular club at her home on twenty fifth street last thursday afternoon A new idea has been advanced which has boa met with the approval ao of all viz that all should devote vote one afternoon to the making of a silk quilt for one mem ber the next afternoon for another and so on till all have squares enough I 1 prepared each lady will put her own quilt together the favored one last week was mrs williams who had bad her squares cat cut out the ladies made them all and L they are now ready tor for the fancy I 1 stitches after which they will be put together and lined the idea is a I 1 ai novel one but those pieces of work I 1 are campbell mrs shilling mrs fleming mrs hurlburt airs mrs matson and mrs abbott complimentary CARD PARTY perhaps the most event of the season was the card party riven given last tuesday evening by mrs mra E M allison jr at her rooms on twenty third street fairy lamps were scattered about adding their soft lights to the radiance of a tall piano lamp whose beautiful deep red shade covered with roses of the same hue gave give a roseate glow to the whole scene cards engrossed the attention of the quests guests till a late hour when the hostess led the way to the dinin groom here was an entire chance chanze of scene a golden light pervading this room and ail all the draperies flowers etc being of the same bright tint A most exquisite supper of six courses was served after which toasts were drunk in champs champagne nearly two hours were spent at geneie tab table after the adjournment to the parlor cafe noir was brought in the ladies were charmingly attired the hostess wear n nga g a lovely black lace dress with diamond ornaments mrs mcclure looked very lovely in a light green crepe with pointed bodice her jewels were pearls and diamonds miss rose kuhn wore a handsome tan colored princess dress trimmed with green velvet an I 1 jeweled baesa monterie men terie miss Mc Millens gown was a beautiful striped silk with ribbon trimming miss miner ap appeared in a charming dress of red lansdowne ansdowne with jet trimmings it was made with coat basque and demi train she also wore diamonds mies bliss belle dees dres drea a of figured black lace was very becoming miss dee wore a bunch of red flowers as a corsage boquet tho the gentlemen were all in conventional vent ional evening costume among those present were mr mc in whose honor the party was given mr G 0 Il 11 olloway mr chas henry mr F 0 schramm and mr 0 if H mcclare mcclure ins THE COTERIE had any one looked into mrs flemings cozy parlors about 6 0 last tuesday evening they would have declared that the party of ladies gathered about the tea tables were ban having a very pleasant time all the work 0 of the afternoon was over and everyone felt free to indulge in a little docial chat among ahse present were mrs everything was most delicious and well served oysters chicken bread cake coffee and ice cream were some of the fiands placed before her guests by the kindly hostess this dainty lunch was served at the close of a delightful session of the coterie the gramme pro of which was as follows mrs ransford smith read an interesting paper on betth shire in scotland mentioning the points of interest in and about the principle towns mra brigga briggs followed with a poem in scotch dialect entitled bothwell briegs briggs which was very entertaining mrs corleas Cor lews subject was and a description of glasgow both being excellent Mrs BIrs Corlew also spoke of the the only cathedral which was saved from being wrecked in the reformation mrs shilling gave a good description I 1 of dundee and read will no and yellow at one opening a dainty dinty creation of green and white v velvet ivet seemed just suited to the lovely blonde who was waa trying it on a hat of ot deep shade of heliotrope with jeweled coronet and pale pink pompon was very becoming to a dark haired lady who was trying to decide between that and an e exquisite x thing in brown velvet and tan tati colored feathers with gold ornaments two hats suitable for young girls one a broad black felt trimmed with yellow ostrich feathers and wide yellow ties and the other a black ablack felt with red ribbon bows and strings looked especially bright and girlish A charming brunette in a broad yellow velvet bat hat with jet crown and black tips was trying to induce her sister also a bru brunette natte to purchase a tiny little I 1 little bonnet of black velvet trimmed with nile green in which she looked very lovely the toques coques have been replaced by small hats and everything in bead head gear is brighter and gayer than thin 0 iver ver A FEW HINTS As the season approaches when the cool evenings cause the family to father gather about the cheerful blaze in the fireplace and those of a social nature rack their brains for some find anything new now under the sun san A frost party which was recently given in an eastern city was a great success the furniture left in th the rooms was covered with cotton batting and sprinkled with sparkling dust all the decorations consisted of branches and boughs which had been been dipped in strong salt water mid and crystallized and looked wonderfully like branches covered with ice electric I 1 I 1 lights in fancy colored shades shed abed bott soft radiance over all and made the scene rarely beautiful the refreshments were in accord with the rest of the entertainment ona one
