of glass in and near ogden and native soda can be had within a distance of miles at a cost ol 01 from rom 1 10 0 to 12 delivered per ton Tann canneries eries could be run here with profit and leather both for boot a and d shoo factories and harness mak makers el to made from the hides bides that we now export refrigerators and canned meat could be opened wit with h a vast profit here instead of shipping our beef cattle to be slaughtered else where and importing our canned meats alfalfa is as good to fatten beef on as corn 1 1 has las the finest kinds of sand atone stone and marble within 20 miles 1 when once the iron ore is utilized and blast furnaces in operation it will furnish the material for rolling mills stove factories and machine chops shops oi of every description MARKETS AND RAILROAD facilities by looking at the map yon will see that ogden stands nearly in the con center ter of the states and terri territories torlea weal west of the mississippi river being nearly half ball way from san francisco to omaha and about the sama same distance between mexico and the british possessions the utah A northern I 1 connecting ogden with the north the oregon short line and the bouthern Biu thern T n pacific w with ith portland tacoma S san an francisco and all points on the paci pacific fie coast the D I 1 A it 0 and the U P 1 with all points east and the U P r on the e extension tension to frisco with the south of utah it if manufacturing establish meats ments were placed in ill montana it would command a trade in idaho washington and oregon a population with the boma home market ol 01 montana tm of about people F in manufacturing in denver it is not tar far enough west to get got out of the cam com t petition of the east and too tar far east to 1 compete with the shipping on the pacific coast and all the market it 0 I 1 I 1 1 saml 1 could id control would be idaho utah 2 wyoming i g nevada new new 3 mexico arizona u and a the homo market arket of 0 colorado a population altogether of abc about ut according to the c census sus 0 of I 1 1890 with regard to the points ol 01 logan provo and salt lake in utah as manufacturing U centers they theyo buffer uffer from the misfortune oi of being way stations on one line between ogden and donver and on a short branch of the union pacific from ogden to frisco while loean logan ia Is miles on a branch off the direct line from ogden to butte they have a disadvantage in both shipping in the raw material and in shipping out the manufactured this would turn their business if there was one of the sane same kind started in ogden as all the terminal facil itcea are centered here ogden being in the centre of some 0 of I 1 the richest agricultural valleys of utah where crops are good living c cheap heap and labor plentiful has advantages of being the centre of the railroad a system stem of the west and would con control arol in manufacturing a population of 2 people if the go goods 0 da were sola sold west and were not ete entered red into competition with points east of utah that is double the amount of population that would fall tributary to any other point between the mis bourl river and the pacific ocean TUB LOCAL ogden would have a good local market for any enterprise of over people without competition that could stand either east or weft as she is protected by a freight tariff of an average of per ibs from either the east or west TUB TRE COAL FIELDS ogden lies near the center of a belt of coal that extends from rock springs twin greek creek and evanston to castle gate and comes within awen ty y alve miles of ogden to the east As a manufacturing site where a low elevation mast must be bad had to insure draft to furnaces ogden beine being only about feet above the level of the sea and being about the lowest elevation in n the rocky mountains that can be used as a manufacturing center TRIBUTARY COUNTRY ogden has cache and box elder counties on the north which supply not only themselves with flour grain potatoes lota toes fruit and all the products of of the be farm but exports a surplus to montana on the north nevada on the west and as far aa as denver on the east there is no place in the west w where here products of the tile farm are BO so cheap as in utah consequently cheap iving living and cheap labor can be found in utah labor laboris is just jast as cheap as in the be E east t and a better price for the manu manufactured t ared goods can be secured while the surplus finda finds a market on an the pacific coast WATER facilities the water facilities of ogden are not equaled oft ogden bas has t two wo 0 of ithe the largest rivers 1 in utah fall one no on each bide side aa as well as one from the north the largest river emptying into bait salt lake is to brought to ogden a distance of fifty miles by the bear lake river water works A irrigation co the largest work done on irrigation in the world except one in india ogden has the water of the abree largest rivers in utah and any and all of it ie is good for steam boi ant era and will not injure them by incrustations the railroad facilities are unequalled unequal led being in the centre of the states M and territories weak west of tho the missouri river it is only reasonable that it can reach all in a shorter distance than any other point can D D JONES chairman committee
