that in consequence of a hole on the corner of fourth and franklin streets while driving at that point his horse had stumbled and he had incurred damage to the amount but ho has had to pay out GOO which amount mr asked the council to reimburse him the matter was referred to the committee on claims mr boyle asked if fourth street is not a county road if so the petition is out of place but the and printed mr boyle called attention to the fact that mr eccles holds a note for 2600 against the city which was due oa the fourth of this month the note is bearing ten per cent interest and the matter was referred to the finance committee with power to act the mayor remarked that ho would like to see ahe note paid if possible but if not he thought the money could be obtained for eight per cent alderman wright called attention to the fact that some of the trees and grasa on lester feared to be suffering for want of water mr folkea waa instructed to get the man to look after the watering closely councilor boyle referred to an arrangement madea somo time ago fur the city and county to jointly look after the haupers paupers and persons the statutes make this a county and ho saw no reason why this should be continued to spend city money to take care of county haupers paupers pau pers the city also has to spend money put the cells in euch a condition that count ty can be taken caro of and ho will bo utterly opposed to paying out the funds of the city for taking care of haupers paupers or county prisoners A motion vas made by mr boyle that the city do not take care of haupers paupers in the future thia ana amended by driver that the matter be referred to the coin finance tho amendment was carried councilor boyle stated that in the decision of tho auit between the
